GATR Site Layout Building 143
Spangdahlem Germany Sht 1 of 1
24 Sep 2015
Notes:
1. Generator/ATS/UPS is installed in the building and will be reused.
2. All interior cable trays for RF cables will be reused.
3. All user interface signals and equipment will be reused..
4. RF cabling will be replaced with ½” heliax from the radios to the appropriate junction boxes.
5. Junction boxes to be mounted on exterior of building below RF egress ports and mounted on the building.
6. Existing towers will be reused.
Existing and reused cable tray paths for
RF cables.
Tower 1 73-ft
(Reused)
Tower 2 73-ft
(Reused) New stainless steel junction box
New stainless steel junction box
Notes:
1. Obstruction lights will be reused as is.
2. Single port antennas will be TACO D2216 for VHF and D2262 for UHF.
Dual ports will use a mix of D2213 (VHF/UHF), D2212 (VHF/VHF), or D2214 (UHF/UHF). The exact count will depend upon which frequencies are used on the dual port antennas. Contractor will coordinate with the base as to which frequencies they want on the higher gain single input port antennas.
3. A new lightning rod will be installed at the top of each tower (Advanced Lightning Technology 490-1). A new lightning downlead will be run down the tower from this lightning rod and cadwelded to the existing earth ground. This downlead will also be connected to both the building 143 and tower ground. The ground lead will be supported on short standoffs at least every 3-feet down the tower to secure the cable.
4. Due to rigidity of 7/8" heliax, the final connection to the antennas will be via ½” heliax pigtails. These cables will be secured with stainless steel bands (Andrews Wraplock, 12395-1. No plastic ties will be allowed where weather exposure exists. A drip loop will be formed at the end of each pigtail prior to connection. All connectors will be weather sealed.
5. Two new stainless steel junction boxes will be placed on each tower about 2-feet below the cross arm mounts at the locations shown. These will allow the 7/8" heliax to transition to ½” heliax for connection to the antennas. A thru connector on a copper buss bar will be installed in in the junction box to allow for cable connection, or to terminate any antenna cables that are not connected to an antenna with a 50-ohm terminating resistor. The junction box buss bar will be grounded to the tower, however, it will not contain surge arrestors.
6. The current antenna mounts use dual steel crossarms at 4 locations to provide 2 antenna mounts at each of 4 levels. These will be replaced with 2 sets of dual crossarms that allow 4 antennas at 2 levels at heights shown.
Cross arms will be galvanized steel with a mounting pipe attached at the end on for antenna mounting. Each cross arm will use twin supports (as shown) to allow mounting pipe to have two support connections.
7. Two stainless steel junction boxes (1 per tower) will be mounted on the building below the RF egress ports. Boxes will be a workable height, will be fully enclosed, weatherprooofed, and have a provision for a lock to preclude unauthorized entry. Lock will be installed by base later. A surge arrestor (Polyphaser, IS-NEMP-C1) will be installed on a copper bus bar for each of the 12 cables. The bus bar will have a ground lead directly from the bar to the earth ground of the building and tower base. Estimated size is 24" x 24" for the junction box.

Tower to be reused
Notes:
1. This room currently houses the radios for the GCA backup in the adjoining building. The new radios shown will be added later by the radio replacement program as replacements for the PRC-113 units currently in use for the Alternate Tower location.
2. New ½” heliax (LDF4-50A) will be fabricated for the existing and new radios (shown in blue and red) (12 active/2 spare). These cables will be routed to the ceiling egress ports and up to the exterior roof mounted junction box.

Existing antenna pedestals to be stripped and saved for future expansion Cleanout and disposal of abandoned cables along this route
(See note 1)
Notes:
1. A large number of old RF cables and signal cables have been abandoned along the route shown within the cable trough and conduit.
Contractor will remove any such cables and dispose of them to the extent possible. Care must be taken not to disconnect any active cables. Removal of these abandoned cables will allow the new 7/8" heliax to reuse the conduit and trough. Cables will only be removed back to the cable egress ports. Any cables that extend further below that will be abandoned in place and cutoff at the egress port.
2. Contractor will remove any old antennas no longer in use or abandoned on antenna pediestals, along with any cabling that runs to them. Active antennas and cables for non-ATC use will not be disturbed. All ATC antennas and cabling will be installed on the 2 pedestals shown. Intent is to clean off all old antennas and cables no longer in use, or being repalced.
