Contingency Wi‐Fi ‐ Q&A

Q1: In the site visit held on 17th June, it was commented on the possibility to use the fiber optic interior network between buildings 119, GYM and PEB and finally to perform the connections in Building 160.

Please, confirm if this is correct.

A1: There is no direct conduits between each couple of buildings. In most of cases you will have to run a long distance when doing a cable connection between any couple of buildings even going sometimes through COMM (Bldg 160).

If any Interconnection between buildings is needed then the AF fiber optic could be used in case of vacant fiber strands. Right now the AF has vacant fiber strands to any of the buildings in this project and then any interconnection between them could be done using fiber optic.

Q2: Please, confirm if we can install a small server rack in Building 160 in order to install all hardware required to establish Wi‐Fi connection

A2: Confirmed, there is no restriction to install a small server rack in Building 160, Room 106. The fiber optic patch panels for the fiber optic cable terminations are placed at Bldg 160 inside the NCC Room. In case of the fiber optic cables to the buildings must be connected to the WI‐FI switch placed in the small server rack then fiber optic path cordons should be run using the technical floor just for a few meters.

Q3: Is there currently a fiber optic connection between the buildings where we are going to take the Wi‐

Fi connection?

A3: If any Interconnection between buildings is needed then the AF fiber optic could be used in case of vacant fiber strands. Right now the AF has vacant fiber strands to any of the buildings in this project and then any interconnection between them could be done using fiber optic.

Q4: Is it possible to make the connection between buildings by air with point‐to‐point links?

A4: We do not see any reason this would not be allowed. We recommend considering weather and buildings that might obstruct line of site.

Q5: Tickets will be used by users to have an Internet connection that will be valid for a few hours per session. When a ticket ends, will the person be able to request another ticket immediately or should wait sometime between ticket and ticket?

A5: The intent of the “ticket” system is keep individuals from idly staying connected to the Wi‐Fi. For example, we do not want an individual to connect in the morning and stay connected throughout the day while they are gone at work.

Also, the “ticket” system can be used to keep the data flow from being overwhelmed. If the provider believes there will be no drastic slowing of service when all residents are utilizing the Wi‐Fi then immediate ticket request shouldn’t be an issue. However, if the service is going to go down after a certain number of ticket users then a time out will be needed.

Q6: Between the tent and the Gym, is there any pipeline connecting both buildings? If it did not exist, would it be possible to install the fiber cable by the outside facade until it reaches the tent from the gym?

A6: Yes there is. The contractor could use the existing conduit to run any fiber or copper wire between the tent and the Gym. Additional infrastructure may also be installed. However, prior coordination will need to be arranged before any digging or minor modifications to buildings may occur.
