Position Description for Catholic Religious Education Director

1.0. Description of Service: The purpose of this document is to outline the requirements of the Holloman Air Force Base Chapel Catholic Religious Education Director

2.0. DoD Qualifying Security Clearance: All individuals actively fulfilling requirements under the Holloman AFB Chapel Religious Services contract must submit to an Installation Background Check. In accordance with Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI 1402.5, para 1.e.5.) individuals will need to complete and submit a National Agency Check and Inquires Form (SFI71 and SF-87).

3.0. General Requirements include:

3.1. Provide proof of High School diploma OR its equivalent. A Master Degree in Theology or Religious Studies is preferable. The applicant must be working towards or have completed at least one of the required AMS Certification Classes for Coordinator of Religious Education (CRE) Certifications Level 1 and Level II in Catechesis. This can be demonstrated by submitting one or more AMS Course Completion Certificates towards the Level I and Level II certification in Catechesis. Certification is valid for 5 years and is renewable.

3.2. Resume must reflect at least two references with knowledge of previous work with youth include: references name, address, phone number and/or e-mail address (Catholic Church ordained, must have Bishop/Superiors letter approving employment).

3.3. Must be experienced in working with MS Office Programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc) and social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.). Applicant must adhere to computer security requirements and usage. Applicant must comply with copyright license reporting and copyright license identification procedures.

3.4. Ability to effectively manage and coordinate activities and facilitate communication between the chapel community and other base organizations.

3.5. Online Information Assurance Awareness Training is required for Government computer access and Total Force Awareness is a requirement for all on-base personnel. A Common Access Card may be issued to allow government computer, internet, and e-mail access to fulfill contracted service requirements.

3.6. Be able to read and speak English fluently, and provide positive customer service in an interfaith pluralistic environment.

4.0 General Responsibilities include:

4.1 Provide all chapel staff and community with 30-day advance notice of activities for publication and community awareness. Must be able to attend weekly HC staff meetings (if required), unless prior notice is given and provide appropriate designee.

4.2. Recruit/train volunteer teachers via workshops and meetings as required. Train Religious Education (RE) staff on proper protocols to utilize facilities, RE policies, and resources. Report to faith group chaplain or designee concerning the attendance no later than Tuesday.

4.3. Ensure core leadership team of teachers and volunteers youth workers have submitted the appropriate security clearance and background check required in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

4.4. Organize two volunteer training events, one in the fall and another in the spring.

Programs must be in accordance with Holloman Chapel Operating Instructions and AF 52-series Instructions.

4.5. Must be available to attend annual, local, and regional educational workshops as necessary and directed by the faith group chaplain when funding is available.

4.6. Ensure DoD safety requirements are followed and ensure proper adult/children ratio is maintained for all programs.

4.7. Develop and submit a yearly Religious Education planning calendar and keep it updated. Ensure implementation of special Adult and Sacramental Education programs.

4.8. Research and obtain Religious Education material to support the RE program and obtaining Wing Chaplain or designee approval before purchasing (specifically religious literature).

4.9. Ensure Facility Request Form is completed at least 30 days in advance for all programs and activities. Indicate on form all necessary Chaplain Assistant, equipment support, and coordinate assistance with Chapel NCOIC.

4.10. Maintain continuity, finance, & Parish Group records. Desk, computer, and basic administrative supplies are provided by the chapel.

4.11. Submit all pertinent data from special events/programs and submit to the faith group chaplain for after-action reports as required.

4.12. Attend monthly Parish Advisory Council and meet quarterly with the faith group chaplain.

4.13. Generate all publicity for the RE program: RE announcements, flyers, bulletin inserts, events guide and calendar. Must obtain approval from the Wing Chaplain before distributing.

4.14. Work collaboratively with chapel staff to provide Vacation Bible School, Fall Rally Day, Fall Festival, Walk with Jesus, Christmas Program, Lenten Program, the end of year Teacher Appreciation and other programs authorized by the faith group chaplain.

4.15 Ensure welcome orientation letter is distributed to new visitors/members of the programs.

5.0. Specific Responsibilities for Catholic Religious Education Coordinator include:

5.1. Provide at least 18 hours per week of work on site (including Sundays) as coordinated with the faith group chaplain or designee.

5.2. Contractor oversees reports/attendance for Religious Education, Rite of Christian Initiation, Catholic Formation Classes, Bible Studies, and all Religious Education classes including: couples, singles, single parents, men’s, women’s, and youth groups of the parish.

5.3. Ensure timely RE curriculum: Plan/order RE materials as needed (Note: IAW AFI 52-105 Curriculum must be approved by the Wing Chaplain).

5.4. Visit each class at least once a quarter or as requested by volunteer teachers or Wing Chaplain /designee needing assistance.

5.5. Coordinate the administration of Sacramental records and Archdiocesan needs with Catholic Priest and/or Parish Coordinator.

5.6. Hold quarterly planning meetings with the Catholic Priest.

5.7. Develop a weekly record of RE enrollment and attendance. Maintain files and submit weekly/monthly attendance reports to faith group chaplain or designee each Monday.

5.8. Estimated hours for Catholic Religious Education Director is 21 hours per week.

Sunday 1000-1145 Service / 1800-1900 Youth group (2.5 hrs) Monday - Friday Planning hours (15 hrs) First Wednesday of the Month Staff Meeting (2 hrs), PAC meeting 1 time per month (1.5 hrs).
