LegendarLegendarLegendarLegendarLegendary Py Py Py Py Prrrrrecisionecisionecisionecisionecision

Monarchs reputation for excellence is clearly reflected in the Model EE 10" Precision Toolmakers Lathe; a tool so precise, sensitive and durable that it has become the standard to which all others are compared.

The EE is built to work hard, year after year, turning out work with virtually the same precision as the day it started.

In fact, many EE lathes are used for years in precision production work. That stamina is what really determines the profitability of any precision machine.

A brief overview of the EE clearly shows why its worth more to you by design.

THE INSPECTION RECORD.

FINAL PROOF OF PRECISION.

An inspection report accompanies every Monarch lathe with both ANSI standards and Monarch standards shown. The following are some of the more critical standards for the 10" Model EE.

ANSI Monarch Standard Standard

Bed Levellongitudinal ........................... 0.0005" 0.0005" Leveltransverse ............................. 0.0005" 0.0001"

Headstock Spindle Face runout ...................................... 0.0003" 0.000050" Taper runout ..................................... 0.0003" 0.000050" Taper hole runout .............................. 0.0003" 0.000050"

Cross Slide Alignment Concave ........................................... 0.0005" 0.0004"

Headstock Alignment Back of center at end of bar ............. 0.0003" 0.0003" High at end of bar ............................. 0.0005" 0.0002"

Tailstock and Headstock Centers Alignment High at tailstock ............................... 0.002" 0.0005"

Note that, in many cases, our standards are much higher. This is the end result of the care and craftsmanship that goes into every EE.

And, its one of the reasons why the EEs precision has become legendary throughout the industry.

LEGENDARY PRECISION

UNCOMPROMISING ACCURACY

RESPONSIVE POWER

One of the major reasons the EE is still the best lathe you can buy is the fact that Monarch has continually made design improvements that either improve performance or durability.

This new ac inverter solid state drive does both. The drive has regenerative braking during slowdown in either direction to give you smooth, controllable response.

MAIN DRIVE MOTOR

The 7.5 hp, 5.6 kW, precision balanced motor provides smooth, effortless power to the spindle. The 5 to 1 speed reduction back gear unit is mounted on the drive motor to provide proportionally greater spindle torque at a lower speed for heavier cuts.

High quality, matched multiple V-belts carry cushioned, practically vibrationless power to the spindle.

This proven drive system is the ultimate in precision power transmission.

HEADSTOCK

The design and construction that goes into the business end of the EE is, indeed, uncompromising.

For example, spindle runout is guaranteed to 50 millionths or less.

This is a direct result of how the spindle is ground. The nose, face and taper journals are all ground at one setting. While it is being ground, the spindle is supported in plain bearings, precision matched to those journals.

Even the slight runout of anti-friction bearings is unacceptable to Monarchs standards.

The spindle range is infinitely adjustable, forward or reverse, from 40 to 4000 rpm, (or 8 to 800 rpm with the aid of a motor mounted back gear unit), with the speed clearly indicated on the large tachometer.

The hardened ASA 3" D-1 camlock spindle nose provides quick, rigid and accurate chuck and fixture mounting.

GEAR BOX AND END

GEARING

Drive from the spindle to the gear box is through a flat endless belt for all feeds. This preserves the headstock and end gear train solely for thread chasing with extreme accuracy.

All end gears are precision shaved, and can be easily changed for securing odd leads.

The gear train is totally enclosed and automatically lubricated ... for years of maintenance-free performance.

TAILSTOCK

The sturdy tailstock has a hardened spindle with graduated micrometer feed to facilitate drilling operations. All quill bores are honed and precision fit. Lateral adjustment screws permit precise alignment with the spindle. A convenient, single-lever quick-acting clamp provides all the tailstock clamping necessary for the capability of the machine.

All controls on the headstock, tailstock and gear box are conveniently placed for ease of use and readability. Large knurled knobs give positive control. The tachometer and thread index plate are clearly marked for legibility. The result is a machine that quickly gives operators complete confidence ... and productivity.

Reliability is built into the EE's drive as it utilizes an entirely solid state control design. All control components are securely housed within the machine's base, insuring outstanding protection from both contamination and physical damage.

In addition, the modern ac inverter drive motor, with its brushless, totally enclosed design, significantly reduces maintenance requirements.

Precise machining and assembly are responsible for that sensitive feel which makes an operator confident of superior results.

Every lever, every handwheel, every adjustment performs its function with ease and sureness. The Monarch EE offers the refined sensitivity of a precision instrument.

MAIN DRIVE MOTOR

(OPTIONAL)

A 10 hp, 7.5 kW, ac inverter solid state spindle drive is optionally available for OEM rebuilt and remanufactured EE lathes. This drive is furnished without the 5 to 1 speed reduction back gear unit. However, it provides ample cutting power over a speed range from 42 to 4000 rpm.

The solid state drive control is housed in a cabinet mounted on the rear of the machine.

BASE, BED AND CARRIAGE

CROSS BRIDGE

When you have a machine as precise as the EE, you have to make sure that it has rock-solid stability under all operating conditions.

Monarch accomplishes this with a rigid cast iron base that not only absorbs vibration better, but easily outweighs all competitive machines.

A simple three-point suspension system ensures accurate alignment for accurate results.

The bed and cross bridge castings are made from a strong and wear-resistant cast iron. All four ways and the dovetail are flame hardened to a depth of 1/8" plus and a Scleroscope reading of 70 to 72. Then the ways are precision ground to a tolerance of 0.0005" over-all. This step produces microscopic reservoirs that retain lubricant more tenaciously than plain hardened steel surfaces, for years of smooth operation and wear-resistant accuracy.

APRON, CARRIAGE, CROSS

SLIDE AND COMPOUND

The apron is laid out for fast, sensitive control of longitudinal feed, cross feed, half nut, and feed reverse.

A simple downward motion on the appropriate lever engages; upward disengages.

Cross feed and longitudinal feed are through large, cone-type friction clutches for sensitive response.

Half nuts are threaded to precisely match the leadscrew, which is used only when threading. A safety interlock prevents the feed rod and leadscrew from being engaged simultaneously.

The EEs response increases precision thread chasing productivity.

Fast drive reversing ability allows you to maintain tool synchronization with the thread from starting cut to finish cut without disengaging the half nuts, while the chasing stop allows quick tool withdrawal and repositioning to depth of previous cut without disturbing the original setup. An additional dial enables you to clean up both sides of the thread on the final pass, if desired.

The carriage is secured by four self-aligning ball bearing gibs, mounted on eccentric studs. This ensures that the carriage never lifts regardless of the cut.

An accurately graduated swivel allows the compound to be rotated through 360° to precise settings.

Attention to detail is the hallmark of the Monarch EE. It is apparent as soon as you touch the machine. The large control handles give you a sense of touch and feel that lets you know youre in total control. Large diameter, direct-reading dials on the cross slide and compound are graduated in thousandths for critical tool adjustment, then satin chrome plated to prevent glare. And, the leadscrew, cross feed screw and compound screw are all induction hardened and ground, to maintain the EEs accuracy long after bargain machines have lost theirs.

SENSITIVITY AND STABILITY

ENGLISH/METRIC

COMBINATION

In todays international market, the need for metric capabilities is a necessity. Monarch's English/Metric combination extends the full range of the EE to do both with the same exacting precision.

A fully integrated gear box eliminates the need for metric transposing gears. It provides a broad range of feeds, and the most used ISO metric threads are included in the coarse, fine and constant lead series within the total range of the gear box. All ISO threads can be obtained by interchanging two stud shaft gears within the range of the gear box.

A large, legible, easy-to-understand legend plate serves as a ready reference for feed and thread selection.

The compound and cross feed dials, and the tailstock quill extension dial provide direct reading in both English and Metric with the equivalent accuracy.

Interchangeable English and Metric dial type indicators can be mounted in the precision mounting on the carriage stop to facilitate shoulder work or repair work in either scale.

ELECTRIC LEADSCREW

REVERSE

This time-saving feature is standard on the current English/ Metric version. It provides an automatic stop in both directions for thread chasing, and is particularly valuable for internal threading of blind holes or short threaded lengths. A convenient knob adapts the mechanism for either right or left hand thread. Another lever reverses the entire machine to return the cutting tool to starting position for the next cut without losing the lead.

VARIABLE REVERSE SPEED

CONTROL

This option can save even more time in thread chasing with the electric leadscrew reverse. It permits the operator to preset the reverse speed of the main drive motor to accelerate the return of the threading tool to start position. Its just one of the EEs strong suits ... and extremely valuable for precision production work.

PRECISION YOU CAN FEEL

As you can see, extraordinary craftsmanship and materials go into each Model EE Lathe. They are literally hand-built, one at a time.

We feel the extra effort is worth it. Monarch EEs have been performing faultlessly for toolmakers year-in and year-out for decades, turning out work virtually as precise as the day they started.

Thats how legends are made. And thats why they are called the Precision Toolmakers Lathe. You simply cant buy a better one.
