STATEMENT OF WORK

TABLE OF CONTENTS

1.1. General

1.2. Existing Conditions

1.3. Contractor Scope of Work

STATEMENT OF WORK (SOW)

1.1. General: Contractor services are required to clean what is refer to as the Alternate Power Unit (APU) area of a B-1 aircraft parking spot as an additional cleaning effort when performing concrete joint sealant in this area. Proper joint cleaning efforts as specified in sections 7A and 13F of the Repair Airfield Pavement IDIQ contract specification will apply after steam cleaning is performed. Contractor shall provide all material, labor, equipment, other work and incidentals to perform all the requirements described in this SOW.

1.2 Existing Conditions: joint sealant within the APU slabs were recently replaced using Superseal 200E, a two component joint sealant manufactured by

CRAFCO. This sealant met the contract specifications (Fed Std SS-S-200E) per documentation submitted by the contractor, however it showed poor performance under the existing conditions (Hydraulic and motor oil spills, oil saturated joints, jet blast and high temperatures). Sealant is not bonding properly to the joint walls and is becoming loose and a FOD hazard. Also, sealant material right beneath the aircraft engine are boiling due to the high temperature produced by the “engine runs” during regular maintenance procedures. Highly oil saturated concrete slabs and joints also represent a bit of a challenge to be able to achieved clean and dry joint walls and consequently good adherence of the joint sealant. Standard joint cleaning efforts (scraping, scarifying and sandblasting) has proofed to be insufficient under the conditions found within the APU slabs area.

1.3 Contractor Scope of Work (SOW): contractor shall clean the area designated as the APU slabs to include the entire concrete surface and the joints using high pressure steam. The area requiring this cleaning effort will be identified per individual parking spot when a task order is issue.

Surfaces and joints to be cleaned are saturated with hydraulic fluids, motor oil and jet fuel, and some have oil puddles. Contractor is to apply high pressure steam cleaning to remove these substances on the surface and in the joints. Joint sealants shall be removed/scraped off from the joints prior to steam cleaning. Contractor shall install runoff water controls to contain all the runoff material (washout water and oil) within each individual APU area using fiber rolls on the down-gradient side of the concrete wash area. Fiber rolls shall be properly secured to the ground to avoid becoming a Foreign

Object Debris (FOD) within the B-1 parking apron. Contractor shall vacuum all the runoff using a vacuum truck and shall properly dispose of off base all material collected following all requirements specified in section 1C of the

Repair Airfield Pavements IDIQ contract.

1.3.1 Removal of existing sealant: contractor shall remove all existing joint sealant and dispose of properly.

1.3.2 Joint cleaning: contractor shall clean all joints within the APU area by scraping and high pressure steam. Minimum passes shall be as follows: one for the scraping and two for the pressure steam.
