Questions/Answers Voulme 1

1. Please clarify the 3/4" x 16" dowels are spaced 12" on center and are set at 4" off the bottom of the speed table. Are the rebar mats set 3" off the bottom of the speed table?

Our intent was to have the rebar mat 3" from the bottom of the speed table and the 3/4" x 16" dowels 4" from the bottom of the speed table.

2. What does Malmstrom want for the control joint cut pattern?

We did not specify a control joint pattern. Our intent was no individual slab with dimensions greater than 10 ft x 10 ft.

3. The control joint detail shows a tapered saw cut. Can a straight cut be substituted?

A straight cut can be substituted, but it will still need to be sealed. Our experience on the airfield is that the beveled edge is less susceptible to spalling than a straight edge. In this case, however, most of the cuts will likely be made in the direction of travel of snow removal equipment.

4. Is the construction joint detail to be used where the speed table is placed adjacent to the existing concrete curb?

Yes. We request the construction joint detail be used when placing the speed table against the existing curb. Dowels are requested only within the speed table itself.
