1. Can you please verify the rough opening sizes of the windows and doors you want to replace?
a. Refer to Page 1 for measurements (rough opening)
2. There was a bit of confusion at the walk through as to what doors and windows are to be replaced. There were three doors at main guard shack and two doors at the South gate that we were told needed to be replaced. Can you please specify what and how many doors/windows we will be replacing?
a. South Gate (Two Doors) replace old door with hinged Ballistic grade Return Fire composites UL8 upper glass, lower part of door can be of a ballistic paneling or Steel. Threshold is not required, No large gaps between the bottom of the door and floor environment and rodents to deal with is a factor.
b. Main Gate (Two Doors) replace old door with hinged Ballistic grade Return Fire composites UL8 upper glass, lower part of door can be of a ballistic paneling or Steel. Threshold is not required, No large gaps between the bottom of the door and floor environment and rodents to deal with is a factor.
3. Can you please specify if there is a certain type of frame that you would like to be used? Steel or Aluminum?
a. Ballistic steel with or without a threshold
4. If a steel frame is used, can you please specify if these need to be primed and/or painted?
a. Painted dark black with a rust resistant primer/Paint.
5. If aluminum is used can you please specify what specific finishes you would like?
a. A “Mechanical finish” i.e. buffed, blasted, polished
6. Is there any specific glazing requirements for the glass that is needed?
a. UL 752 Level 8 with Return fire Composite glazing
7. Are there any ASTM requirements such as fire or smoke for any of the material, fasteners or sealants we use?
a. Use standard commercial practices. B-G needs to be a factor.
8. At Magic City Gate there is a small window on the Southwest corner, outside of the main shack, in the stucco. Is this window being replaced?
a. No.
9. The door specifications do not call out any door hardware. Can you please specify if hinges, locks, push/pull, closures etc. are needed?
a. South gate doors need to be hinged, with supportive locks able to handle the heavy load of the doors daily use. Outside pull handle with a flat inside push bar style handle. (again all hardware must be supportive to the weight and size of the doors not just something from Home Depot that is manufactured for a common house door.
b. Intercom capabilities to communicate with personnel outside of the door
c. Main gate also need to be hinged, with supportive locks able to handle the heavy load of the doors daily use. Outside pull handle with a flat inside push bar style handle. (again all hardware must be supportive to the weight and size of the doors not just something from Home Depot that is manufactured for a common house door.
10. On the main shack the building goes right up to the curb with cars passing at the curb line. Will traffic be diverted during construction?
a. Accommodations will be made to support those days construction requires traffic to stop to complete the job. At all cost the limitation of hindering inbound and outbound traffic during peak hours Morning, Noon and end of day 1630-1800 will need to be considered. Police services will work that out with the contractor’s needs.
11. Is there any electrical, communication, security or any other type of wiring inside any of the existing window or door frames?
a. Currently there is nothing with the current windows at Main or South Gate.
12. Will the buildings be occupied during construction?
a. Hours of operation at Main Gate are 24/7, however inbound traffic checks may be able to move to support building at main.
b. Hours of operation at South are normally 0530-1800 M-F, Mission changes may alter those hours of operation. However inbound support traffic checks may be able to move to support buildings forward of primary south gate.
c. Police Services will work closely with contractors needs on this factor.
13. According to section 7.1 the contractor must gain approval for storage of material. Is there a staging area that will be provided that we can park a job trailer or storage container?
a. Yes, areas for this can be set up near project area. Coordination will be with contracting, CE and Police Services.
14. Are there specific hours of the day we are limited to work?
a. Police services does not foresee any limited hours to work, possible LIMFAC is high traffic hours morning, noon and end of day only affecting the need to close lanes for construction.
15. The North exterior wall of the Magic City Gate has a sliding door and two exterior window. Due to the nature of the bullet resistant door and windows being very heavy we will need to frame in and add additional supports to carry the weight of the ballistics as specified in the SOW. Please specify what material you would like us to use for the framing itself and what material you would like to use on the interior and exterior of the building.
a. At this time the magic city gate addition part with the sliding glass door is no longer on the ballistic window project. That Part not being built to support such ballistic structures now will be a future contract.
16. Can you please provide structural drawings of the Magic City Gate structure? Specifically the North wall of the Magic City Gate with the sliding door.
a. Photos are attached along with sketches of what is envisioned of the windows and doors.
17. Can you please verify any load bearing supports that may be present on the smaller addition at the Magic City Gate (outside of the masonry structure)? Is the stucco structure above resting on the windows and doors below?
a. Again this part is being removed from the original contract due to the unknown supportive build of this addition. A future contract is being formulated for this smaller addition.
18. At Magic City Gate under the North and East sides there are filler panels under three windows and on the sliding door. Can you please specify what material you would like us to use to match the existing look? Or would you like the entire rough opening to be glass in those locations?
a. Again this part of the Magic city gate is being removed from this contract due to its unknown supportive construction. A future contract is being formulated for this smaller addition.
19. At Magic City Gate there is a plywood wall in the smaller addition on the West side. Is this to remain untouched?
a. Again this part of the Magic city gate is being removed from this contract due to its unknown supportive construction. A future contract is being formulated for this smaller addition.
20. At Magic City Gate the plywood wall in the smaller addition on the West side also has multiple electrical conduits and a junction box mounted to it. Also, the wires for the control switchboard are located in that wall.
Can you specify (if the wall gets removed) where those conduits and wires need to be moved to?
a. Again this part of the Magic city gate is being removed from this contract due to its unknown supportive construction. A future contract is being formulated for this smaller addition.
21. At the South gate, there are multiple corner guards that will need to be removed in order to replace any of the doors. Will these be removed and replaced by another party?
a. The corner guards refereed to in this question are outside or inside?
b. Outside corner guards appear to be two. Photos attached, please review and highlight areas in question.
22. There are some doors that have thresholds and some do not. Are thresholds required on any of the new doors?
a. Due to mice infestation, snow, rain and other inclement weather a threshold is recommend for this environment. No large gaps between the floor and bottom of door are wanted.
