SECTION 32 18 23

ACRYLIC TRACK SURFACING (RED)

PART 1 – GENERAL

A. DESCRIPTION

1. The project scope of work consists of the removal of an existing track surface on an asphalt base, the installation of a new track surface.

2. Tracklite III/MR, or equal, Synthetic Surfacing (RED) is a mixture of size controlled solid rubber granules bound with Acrylic Latex Binder. The rubber granules are of a controlled graduation between 1-6 mm, containing minimum dust. The mixture is applied in multiple layers on a new or existing asphalt base course as approved by Tracklite Systems, or equal.

3. PRODUCT USE: TRACKLITE III/MR, or equal, is designed to provide an economical and affordable surface which is both durable and resilient. TRACKLITE III/MR, or equal, may be used in new construction, or to resurface an existing all-weather surface, including rubberized asphalt and synthetic, providing the existing surface has good structural integrity and planarity.

B. PREINSTALLATION MEETING

1. Review methods and procedures related to track surface installation.

2. Review delivery, storage, and handling procedures.

3. Review ambient conditions and ventilation procedures.

4. Follow manufacturer's written instructions for preparation and installation.

C. SUBMITTALS

1. Product Data (For each type of product): Provide Manufacturer’s data sheets and MSDS for approval.

2. Include installation recommendations for each type of material to be installed.

3. Include maintenance recommendations as outlined by manufacturer.

4. Provide product samples approximately 6”x6” in size.

5. Copy of manufacturer’s standard warranty.

D. QUALITY ASSURANCE

1. Manufacturer Qualifications: Track Surface shall have no less than 5 years’ experience in the manufacture of specified product.

2. Track surfacing material shall be by one manufacturer as a named and specified complete system.

3. Product Installer shall have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the installation of specified product system and be approved by the manufacturer for installation of their product.

E. Warranty: Provide a copy of the manufacturer’s standard warranty.

PART 2 – PRODUCTS

A. MANUFACTURER/INSTALLER:

2. Physical Properties of Finished Surface:

a. Thickness: Minimum 1/2 inch, or as specified

b. Color: Red

Colors other than black (Green, Blue) shall utilize suitably colored EPDM granules only.

c. Cure Time: Approximately 24 hours per layer in warm dry weather

PART 3 - EXECUTION

A. PREPARATION AND REQUIREMENTS OF THE BASE (If required)

1. After applying a suitable soil sterilant, a recommended base or bottom course shall consist of either 3 to 4 inches of base-course bituminous concrete, or 4 to 12 inches of crushed stone, gravel, or cinders, laid over a firm, well compacted, stable and frost free sub grade which has been brought to proper contour and elevation in strict accordance with drawings and/or specifications. These recommendations are guidelines only, and exact thickness should be determined by local soil and climatic conditions.

2. A binder, intermediate, or leveling course of rich, open-textured bituminous concrete shall be laid upon the prepared base or bottom course to a compacted thickness of one inch over bituminous base course, or two inches over aggregate base course.

B. TRACKLITE III/MR SURFACE COURSE (Or Equal)

1. After the asphalt base has cured properly (a minimum of 14 days), a prime (tack) coat of TRACKLITE Latex Tack Binder #3088, or equal, shall be applied at a rate of .05 gallons per square yard. This binder shall be diluted with water 1:1.

2. A layer of TRACKLITE 3-6 mm black base rubber granules, or equal, shall be spread evenly by means of a mechanical spreader, or manually, at a rate of approximately 2.5 pounds per square yard. This layer shall be saturated with TRACKLITE Latex Binder #3966, or equal, at a rate of approximately .2 gallons per square yard using spray equipment as approved by TRACKLITE SYSTEMS, or equal. Allow this layer to cure.

3. A second layer of TRACKLITE 3-6 mm rubber black base granules, or equal, shall be spread in the same manner at a rate of approximately 2.5 pounds per square yards, and shall be saturated with TRACKLITE Latex Binder #3966, or equal, at a rate of approximately .28 gallons per square yard. Allow sufficient time between layers for curing.

4. A third layer of TRACKLITE 1-3 mm black rubber granules, or equal, shall be spread at a rate of approximately 3.5 and shall be saturated with TRACKLITE Latex Binder #3966, or equal, at a rate of approximately .28 gallons per square yard. Before spraying, the TRACKLITE Latex Binder, or equal, shall be mixed with dispersed red pigment at a rate of five gallons per 55 gallon drum.

5. Two additional layers of TRACKLITE 1-3 mm Red EPDM Rubber granules, or equal, shall be spread at a rate of Approximately 2.3 lbs. per square yard each and shall be saturated with TRACKLITE Latex Binder #3966, or equal, at a rate of approximately .28 gallons per square yard. Before spraying, the TRACKLITE Latex Binder, or equal, shall be mixed with dispersed red pigment at a rate of five gallons per 55 gallon drum. Allow each layer a sufficient time to cure.

6. A final spray of red pigmented TRACKLITE Latex Top #D-471, or equal, is to be applied at a rate of approximately .1gallons per square yard to insure a uniform finish. This application shall contain special UV inhibitors to prevent degradation and shall be diluted 2:1.

C. PAINTED MARKERS

1. Provide painted lane, distance markers and lane numbers. (Note location, style, size and nomenclature of existing (to match new) prior to removal of existing track surface).

2. Use product equal to “T/C White Line Paint” as manufactured by Sport Master Sport Surfaces. Color to be standard White.

3. Striping paint to be compatible with and capable of adhering to, Red Pigment Topping surface course specified above.

4. Allow wearing surface to cure completely before applying paint.
