QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

MAHG161002 Questions and Answers April 6, 2018

1. From the statement of work it appears the contractors will be installing an additional electrical service on building 4002 for the recycle equipment. NEC article 230.2 typically only permits one electrical service per build or structure unless permitted in articles

230. (A) Through (D). Does service meet NEC Article 230.B? Also if the second service is installed permeant plagues will need to be installed on the new service and existing service to meet NEC article 230. (E). Will this plagues be required? In addition does KAFB fire department have any issue or requirement for building with multiple services?

Add labeling according to the NEC. See Addendum 1.

2. In the statement of work is call for a NEMA 1 disconnects to be installed in the inside the exiting building for the new service. If the building is going two different electrical service to meet the NEC the new disconnect for the new service should be located on the outside of the building as a means of disconnect to remove power from the building in the event of an emergency. Does the disconnect need to be change to a 200amp 240v NEMA 3R “service entrance” rate fusible disconnect switch with a neutral bar and moved to the north outside wall of the building 4002?

See Addendum 1.

3. In the statement of work is calling for 4‐3/0 THHN + 1‐3/0 GD to be installed from the transformer to the new disconnect. Typically you would not pull a full size ground conductor in with your service entrance conductors from the transformer to the disconnect. The ground conductor would start and the service entrance disconnect were the ground rod is driven. Is the 3/0 ground conductor from the transformer required? See Addendum 1.

4. The new service entrance disconnect will require a ¾’’x10’ copper clad ground rod with a #4 ground conductor from the ground rod to the service entrance disconnect 1’’ conduit GRC conduit and to bond neutral to ground at the first means of disconnect which would be the new safety switch. Will this be required as part of this project? See Addendum 1.

5. The statement of work is calling for THHN insulated conductor to be used. THHN is use in dry and damp locations. Underground conduit a typically classified as wet locations. Can XHHW insulated conductor be used there are approved for dry and damp and wet location? See Addendum 1.

6. In the statement of work is calling for 3 phase to be installed from the disconnect switch to the new panelboard in a 2” conduit. Should this be 4‐3/0 THHN +1‐#6 green GD in 2 ½’ conduits? See Addendum 1.

7. Instead of trenching the 500 foot from the existing transform through paved area of building 4004.

Can the contractor road bore in the 2 ½’’ PVC conduit from the existing transformer to building 4002? It would be approximately 460 feet of road bore and 40 feet of trenching required for this project. Also can two (2) 24’’x24’’x24’’ in ground Quazite junction boxes be install for pull point?

One in ground j‐box 10’ to 15’ on the south side of the transformer and the other 10’ off the north side of building 4002 in the grass area. See Addendum 1.

8. Drawing A1.0 Detail 10 for the blue max‐packer horizontal baler is showing a 25kv 3phase 25kva 208v primary and 480v secondary transformer being relocated to provide the 480v power for this equipment. In the SOW is calling for this equipment to be feed from 3 pole 30amp breaker with 4‐ #10 + 1‐#10 GN which is the 208v primary side of side transformer. Is this the correct size breaker and conductors for primary side of this transformer? Also is a neutral conductor required?

In order to get the 27 amp of 480v on the secondary side of the transformer required for this equipment by reveres feeding the 25kva transformer the 208v primary side of the transformer, the over current devices and conductors need to be figured at the at the 208v primary side amperage of the transformer which is 69.4 amp.

The breaker size for this transformer should be 125%of the amperage (69.4x1.25=86.75) a 3pole 90amp breaker and the conductor size would be 3‐#3+1‐#6 GD 1 ¼’’ conduit. The 480v secondary side would be 3‐ #10+1‐#10 GD in a ¾’’ conduit. Typically with this type of transformer is not set up for and 480v neutral connection unless the transformer is set up with a H0 connection point.

9. Drawing A1.0 Detail 10 for the shedder and green vertical baler is showing the equipment drawing

28amp. The SOW is calling for 3 pole 30amp breaker for be installed in the new panelboard. The 30amp breakers being installed are over the 80% rating of the new circuit breaker. Are these the correct size circuit breaker?

Circuit breaker are typically not load more than 80% of their rating in which a 30amp would not be load more than 24 amp. With the in rush current from the motor starting on the equipment could possible cause the 30amp breaker to trip. NEC allows you to go to the next size breaker which would be 35amp.

10. Are there any additional fire alarm requirements for the recycle center relocation area?

No additional Fire Alarm requirements are required
