PROTESTANT MUSICIAN/MUSIC DIRECTOR

Description of Services: Non‐personal Services to provide Protestant worship music services in accordance with the requirements of this Performance Work Statement (PWS). Services include all labor, material, equipment, supervision and transportation required to perform the necessary duties of this requirement.

1. Scope of Responsibilities. This position supports the music component of the Protestant Worship

Community (Parish) Vision and Mission Statements, as identified by the Wing Chaplain. The Protestant music program will encompass the needs of the respective chaplains, congregations, and choirs of the

Seaside Chapel on Patrick AFB and the South Patrick Chapel in the South Patrick housing area.

2. General Responsibilities. The Protestant Musician/Music Director shall provide the following tasks:

2.1. Plan and direct the Protestant music programs in coordination with the Protestant Chaplain to include all choirs, praise teams, special music including solos, duets, and ensembles, and all congregational singing and any musical accompaniments. Hours are estimated at 16 – 20 hours per month (hours may vary).

2.2. Ensure that audio equipment is set-up and working with sound system tested (volume) and instruments tuned at least 30 minutes prior to start of each Protestant worship service. Complete a review of musical selections with worship service chaplain and perform a warm‐up with the choir. NOTE: The choral warm‐up will not replace the weekly choir rehearsal.

2.3. Attend all monthly Parish Council meetings for informational and planning purposes.

2.4. Notify the Wing Chaplain or his designated representative of any planned or unplanned absences and, if necessary, arrange for an approved substitute. Substitute’s qualifications must meet or exceed the qualifications (including background check) listed in this PWS and must be approved at least 2 weeks prior to any planned absence. If routine services are disrupted for more than two (2) consecutive weekly choir rehearsals and Protestant Sunday worship services, the Government reserves the right to procure such services from another source, until routine services are restored by the Contractor. When the Government exercises its right to procure these services from another source, the Government will reduce the Contractor's invoice at an equivalent amount to that incurred. A copy of the other source’s service ticket will be used as the basis for this reduction. The Government will furnish the Contractor a copy of this ticket upon the Contractor's request.

2.5. Maintain an archive of Protestant worship‐appropriate music. Make recommendations to the

Protestant chaplain for new music purchases. Be sure to review the archive prior to requesting the purchase of new music. Any recommendations must include estimated costs and number of copies. Final purchase decision will be made by Protestant chaplain and a copy must be provided to the chapel staff.

2.6. Recruit choir members and additional musicians.

2.7. Provide 3 days’ notice to Protestant chaplain of any music changes in Sunday services or changes in weekly choral rehearsal times.

2.8. Provide for chaplains’ suggestions of congregational music for all required worship services and any special services.

2.9. Coordinate each month’s music and choral selections with the worship service chaplains one week prior to beginning of new month.

2.10. Submit all necessary facility requests for the use of chapel or other facilities to the chapel staff.

Most submissions are on an annual basis.

2.11. Ensure choir areas are left clean and orderly after use. Restore area to original configuration including wrapping all cords and returning all microphones, music stands, and cords to storage areas after every choir rehearsal or worship service.

2.12. Monitor the condition of the piano, organ, electronic keyboard, guitars, and drums and advise the chapel staff of any problems and/or broken equipment.

2.13. Ensure zero tolerance for any violation of copyright laws and guidelines. Any abuse of this will be considered breach of contract and cause for partial or full termination.

2.14. Open, secure and lock chapel facilities and sanctuaries whenever used for weekend services, meetings, activities, or ceremonies and turn off all lights. Read and sign facility usage, security, key control, and safety letter (available via chapel staff).

2.15. Maintain a dress code and professional appearance and attitude suitable to the office environment and work being performed.
