Rubber Removal - Tinker AFB Q&A
1. The specifications call for a chemical detergent application. Is there a specification for the chemical detergent? Is there a particular brand that is approved for use at Tinker AFB?
We have allowed chemical detergent and pressure wash.
2. Is it the Government’s intention to have the rubber removal performed by water blasting OR chemical detergents? In our experience, the use of a chemical in combination with high pressure provides no increase to the removal rate or removal quality of rubber deposits from an airfield. It only results in an increase in cost.
We prefer water blasting without damaging the joint material.
3. Will a vacuum/sweeper truck be required if the high pressure water removal truck is self-contained with a vacuum reclamation unit and holding tanks with filters?
Yes
4. Rubber removal using the chemical detergent method stated in paragraph 2.11 is not capable of removing 10,000 square feet an hour as required by paragraph 2.3. The chemicals need to dwell on the surface overnight in order to loosen/lift the rubber before sweeping, rinsing and vacuuming. This will not meet the rate specified. Will high pressure alone be sufficient since it meets the removal rate?
Yes
