The kill switch will be located in a place that will not allow the lanyard to be entangled with the steering wheel or other objects on the console when properly attached to the bottom of the operator’s lifejacket.

Vendor will provide and install all components of the propulsion system in accordance with current ABYC standards: Ventilation of boats using gasoline, gasoline fuel systems, propulsions control systems, electric/electronic propulsion control systems, and in accordance with the component manufacture’s recommendations. The vendor shall not install a component in a manner that will void the original equipment manufacturer warranties. All fuel fills and fuel vents must be installed in a manner to ensure that there will be no discharge of gasoline outside of the boat when fueling.

Mercury outboards will be provided because NOAA has Mercury technicians on staff that can provide support, Mercury’s past outstanding performance and standardization of equipment and spare parts is also a strong consideration.

Electrical equipment in the engine and fuel tank compartments will be intrinsically safe, or ignition proof for use in a gasoline fuel atmosphere.

Wiring and Electrical Cables/system: Utilization of a two (2)-conductor cable to provide power to individual loads from branch circuits. Cables will be sized for load and voltage drops in accordance with ABYC Electrical Standards (E-9). Cable conductors within equipment or enclosures will have sufficient length to facilitate tracing, troubleshooting and opening and closing of hinged doors. Conductor groups inside of equipment or enclosures will be neatly formed using self-clinching nylon wire ties and routed to prevent damage. Breakers and switches will have a plexi-glass cover to protect them from being accidentally switch on or off. Terminal lugs will be the tinned, solderless, crimp style with ring ends in accordance with ABYC.

Battery cable lugs will be made of tinned copper. The battery cable lug will be attached by mechanical means in accordance with ABYC. Battery cable connections will be of hex nut, lock washer type. Cabling passing through watertight boundaries, decks will be installed using watertight bulkhead fittings to ensure watertight integrity. Cable passing through bulkheads, deck, etc., will be protected against chaffing by the use of abrasion-resistant grommets. Cables will be grouped into cable harnesses wherever possible. All wiring, connections and cables shall be labeled and easily readable.

There will be no splices with the exception of the electrical equipment that only provides a minimum amount of wire to install. Controls and gauges will be within sight of the operator, clearly identifiable, accessible, and operable during daytime and nighttime operations. All gauges and controls will be dimmable for nighttime operations.

Grounding and bonding and lighting protection: The DC electrical system will be bonded and grounded in accordance with the requirements of ABYC standards.

Requirement for control stations and data display systems: A loop of excess cable will be provided to allow removal of instruments, systems and displays for accessing the back of associated items by turning the items over without disconnecting any conductors.

Navigation lights: Navigation lights will be provided and installed to meet USCG Navigation

Rules for International–Inland waters for vessels under 65 feet. Navigation lights and installation will adhere to ABYC standards for the design, construction and performance. The navigation lights will be permanently mounted, wired, and installed so that illumination towards the crew is minimized.

Piping, Hose, and Valve Requirements: All valves and connection points should be accessible and not where it may be subject to damage. Piping and hose will be run as directly as possible with minimum of bends and fittings. Piping will be supported to prevent vibration. Valves, joints, and fittings other than welded ones will be installed in accessible spaces.
