Bidders Questions and Answers
August 22, 2016
Q1. Line item 20304-1000 Removal of Structures and Obstructions. SCR 203.01 directs us to remove exposed metal at the OK Dam Day Use Area Site 4. What about all the broken concrete sidewalk and other concrete debris on the site? In addition, do you want the existing concrete steps removed under this bid item?
A1. Only remove the exposed rebar. All other concrete debris can remain. Stairs are removed under this pay item if they are in the way of constructing the new ones.
Q2. Line item 64603-2100 Fixture Stairway. Is there a length of total stairs to replace? Do we leave the undamaged stairs in place and only replace the damaged sections? How wide are the new stairways? The contract drawings show 4” of base material and 4” of concrete with welded wire fabric. Do we remove riprap and place this new sidewalk on the existing subgrade and replace riprap adjacent to new stairs? The existing stairs appear to have rebar rather than mesh to help reinforce them on this slope. Will the welded wire fabric provide enough tensile strength in this application?
A2. All the stairs need to be replaced. There is approximately 280 feet of stairway (measured from plan view) and they should be 4 feet wide. Do not remove riprap. Fabric will be sufficient with proper subgrade (aggregate) compaction and prep work.
Q3. Line item 63620-0000 Pole. The drawings direct contractor to run electrical and conduit as directed. Is there a distance know for this?
A3. There is electrical on site near one of the standing poles. They will need to coordinate with the ASCOE. There is a pole near the shelter and one near the middle of the site; should be able to measure from there.
Q4. Site 3: The new boardwalk is over water at the end. Can we drive wood piles with a crane from the shore line?
A4. Crane can be used to drive wood piles from the shore provided that adjacent wetlands are not impacted during construction.
