About this file
This document outlines specifications for a cutting machine and related cutting wheels. The Navy seeks to procure a chip-less wheel cutting machine capable of cutting Inconel 600 omega seals within specified diameter tolerances. The machine must split into two assembly halves connected by alignment pins and bolts. It utilizes an array of bearings, eccentric shafts, and machined V-grooves to mount the rotating ring. Adjustable height positioning pins and a hybrid clamping system featuring both a precision collet and adjustable clamp legs provide repeatable centering of seals. The machine includes two dovetailed tool slides moved by a captured star wheel feed screw. A consumable cutting wheel is housed on the tool slide beneath a removable bearing cover. A feed trip assembly automatically stops the tool slide in overload conditions. A 110 PSI pneumatic motor capable of satisfactory cutting line speeds for Inconel 600 must be included. The opportunity will be sole sourced to EH Wachs in accordance with FAR Part 13.5 for commercial items.

OMEGA SEAL CUTTING MACHINE SPECIFICATIONS
CUTTING MACHINE SHALL MEET THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATIONS:
1. CUTTING MACHINE SHALL PERFORM CHIP-LESS WHEEL CUTTING OF INCONEL 600 (MIL-N-23228) OMEGA SEALS WITH OD OF 10.805(+.000/-.005 INCHES). ALSO, THE MACHINE SHALL BE CAPABLE TO
COMPLETE DIAMETRICAL CENTERLINE CUTTING OF OMEGA SEALS FROM THE OD OF 10.805
(+.000/-.005 INCHES) TO 10.350 INCHES.
2. THE MACHINE SHALL SPLIT INTO (2) ASSEMBLY HALVES, INCLUDING STATIONARY FRAME, ROTATOR
FRAME AND CLAMPING RING.
3. THE BEARING SYSTEM CONSISTS OF AN ARRAY OF BEARINGS HELD TO STATIONARY FRAME VIA
ECCENTRIC SHAFTS AND IS MATED WITH THE ROTATING RING'S MACHINED V-GROOVES.
4. TWO (2) SPLIT HALVES ARE JOINED TOGETHER VIA ALIGNMENT PINS AND COMMON CAPTIVATED
BOLTS.
5. FOUR (4) REMOVABLE HEIGHT POSITIONING PINS ARE USED TO PRE-SET MACHINE ELEVATION
HEIGHT TO DESIRED SEAL CUT LOCATION.
6. HYBRID CLAMPING SYSTEM WITH TWO METHODS FOR MACHINE MOUNTING - (1) PRECISION
MACHINED COLLET OUTFITTED WITH INTEGRATED SINGLE WORM GEAR DEVICE CAPABLE OF
ACHIEVING HIGHLY ACCURATE AND REPEATABLE MACHINE MOUNTING AND CENTERING, (2) TWO
FIXED DIAMETER AND TWO ADJUSTABLE CLAMP LEG ARRANGEMENTS
7. MACHINE HAS TWO TOOL SLIDES AND A SPRING LOADED FEED TRIP ASSEMBLY. TOOL SLIDES ARE
DOVETAIL MOUNTED AND MOVABLE BY CAPTURED STAR WHEEL FEED SCREW.
8. CONSUMABLE "CHIP-LESS" CUTTING WHEEL IS HOUSED TO THE TOOL SLIDE VIA REMOVABLE TOP
BEARING COVER.
9. CONTAINS A FEED TRIP ASSEMBLY THAT WILL AUTOMATICALLY STOP THE TOOL SLIDE FEED IN CASE
OF AN OVERLOAD CONDITION.
10. PNEUMATIC MOTOR (FORWARD AND REVERSING) SHALL BE CAPABLE TO OPERATE CUTTING
MACHINE TO ACHIEVE A SATISFACTORY CUTTING LINE SPEED (RPM’S) FOR INCONEL 600 (MIL-N-23228) USING A TOOL AIR SOURCE RATED AT 110 PSI. PNEUMATIC MOTOR SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH A
PORTED EXHAUST.
11. CERTIFICATE OF COMPLIANCE IS REQUIRED.
