3.2 INSTALLATION
A. Submersible Pump: Install according to the manufacturer's instructions. Do not energize submersible pumps which are not immersed in water for more than 3 seconds at not less than
10-minute intervals, unless written approval is obtained from the manufacturer to do otherwise.
B. Conductors:
1. General: Install the required wiring, controls and junction boxes, complete, from the point of supply to the submersible pump. Carefully lower the drop pipe taking care not to drag the conductor over the casing edge or allow the conductor to become pinched. As the drop pipe is lowered in the well, check continuity and resistance at each joint with an ohmmeter.
2. Splicing: No splices will be permitted in the drop cable between the motor splice and the surface control unit. Splices in other locations shall be as recommended by the manufacturer.
3. Taping: Tape the conductor to the drop pipe with 2-inch plastic tape at intervals not to exceed 7 feet. Use a minimum of 4 turns of tape at each tie point.
C. Check Valve: Install at an average spacing of 100 feet (not equally spaced). Install a check valve one length of drop pipe above the pump.
D. Centering Guides: Utilize at the discretion of the contractor but not more than one every 100 feet.
E. Torque Arrestor: Install on plastic drop pipe, one just above the pump.
F. Pump Foundation: Construct according to the drawings.
G. Submersible Pump Motors: Provide a starter recommended by the pump manufacturer.
3.3 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Submersible Pump:
CEDAR POINT CAMP HOST SITE IMPROVMENTS 11216-4
1. General: After installation is completed, operate the pump, at design capacity, in the presence of the Contracting Officer for a period of at least 2 hours. When the power source is not available, provide a compatible power source, at the Contractor's expense, for the required testing. Also, provide temporary lines for the safe discharge of test water as approved by the Contracting Officer.
2. Insulation: After installation, test insulation resistance between windings and between each stator winding and frame. Insulation resistance values less than 1/2 megohm are not acceptable.
3. Load Current: Measure motor current in each phase conductor with the motor operating at the highest normal load to which it may be subjected on the generator. Compare current readings to nameplate full-load-current ratings. Report to the Contracting Officer readings higher than the nameplate rating. Record current readings for motors 1/2 hp and larger.
