v1.5_JANUARY2020
BRAND NAME SPECIFICATION
Fuel Valve Sub-Assembly
PR 1300847456
BACKGROUND:
Code 8555 Reliability and Maintainability team is tasked with identifying and resolving emerging Fleet issues. This acquisition is to procure a valve assembly that replaces an existing design for the Torpedo MK 48 Propulsion System.
The Torpedoes that are in the field have used a Fuel Valve device (NAVSEA Drawing # ) that was developed decades ago and requires the use of brand name parts from Parker-Hannifin Corporation. Because the original Torpedo MK 48 designers provided a design that utilized some proprietary information and parts, Parker is the only approved source on the existing Source Control drawing, and is the only manufacturer that has ever made these valves in over 50 years. Changes to the Torpedo and its deployment have necessitated a revision to the decades old part to resolve performance issues. This new design retains some of the Parker- Hannifin Corp brand name parts and information, for which the Navy does not control the technical data. This subassembly will be installed in current Fuel Valve Assemblies and it is imperative that Parker provide these items to the Navy for successful torpedo performance.
DESCRIPTION OF REQUIREMENT:
Code 85 requires the procurement of the Instrument Capable Fuel Valve Assembly for the Torpedo MK 48 as follows:
CLIN Description/Title Quantity 0001 Valve Assembly, Fuel, Instrument Capable
Parker Part #: XG1238 In accordance with Drawing #:
BRAND NAME SPECIFICATION:
The purpose of the Torpedo MK 48 Fuel Valve (FV) is to allow fuel from the fuel tank into the combustion chamber and seal a stationary unit against a rotary unit without leakage of the coolant into the fuel system, nor leakage of fuel into coolant system. The Fuel Valve assembly, NAVSEA drawing # , specifies only one responsible source: Parker-Hannifin Corporation. The assembly has been produced solely by Parker (or their wholly-owned predecessor Teledyne-Republic) for decades for the Torpedo MK 48 weapon system. In addition, no other vendor has the testing capability or test equipment for this requirement. The drawing for the updated fuel valve, , also specifies Parker as the only approved source of supply.
