GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Lewis and Clark NHP has a requirement for the installation of one antenna at their repeater site, Megler Mountain. The tower is located at the following location:
Megler Mountain: 46°17'11.07"N 123°53'51.15"W Elevation: 2237’
The tower work will require, at a minimum, two personnel. Each climber will be certified to climb towers as well as certified for tower rescue. Selected climbers will provide their certification prior to climbing the towers. Work will entail moving existing antenna to a higher location on the tower, installing new transmission cable, and test completed work to ensure antenna and cable assembly meet industry standards.
ANTENNA & CABLE REPLACEMENT:
General:
Each tower will require the removal and installation one VHF omni antenna and feed line to the Lightning Protection Device (LPD). The Park will be responsible for everything after the LPD.
Materials:
The Park will provide the following materials:
1 Telewave ANT150F2 VHF antenna
200’ of LMR-600 cable
5 LMR-600 connectors
4 Grounding kits for LMR-600
Contractor will provide the following:
Electrical tape
Zip Ties
Coax weather proofing material
Installation:
Contractor will sweep both the UHF and VHUF transmission cables. If the cables and/or antennas fail, the contractor will remove them and replace with a new transmission cable and/or antennas.
Testing will include the following:
Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR)
Return loss
Distance to Fault return Loss
If the VHF antennas and /or transmission cable pass the testing they will remain in-place. All UHF antennas will be replaced regardless of the test results.
Prior to climbing the tower all radio equipment tied to the transmission cable will be turn off and remain off while climbers are on the tower.
All exterior cable connectors will be weather proofed.
All transmission cables will be tied or clip to the tower.
All transmission cables will be grounded using LMR-600 grounding kits.
Miscellaneous:
Safety of personnel is the utmost importance. The contractor will ensure all personnel have the appropriate PPE to perform tower climbing duties. A visual hazard analysis will be performed by the contract prior to climbing the tower to ensure the tower is safe to climb. The following is the minimum requirements to meet OSHA standards
First Aid Kit
Fall Protection Systems – Fall protection systems must meet OSHA standards 1910.140. Full Body harness is required. The use of body belts or tree trimmer belts is forbidden.
Hard Hat – ALL personnel working on or within the fall radius of the tower must wear hard hat.
Hard hats will meet OSHA 1926.100 standards.
Foot Protection - Foot protection will be in accordance with OSHA 1910.136 standards.
Gloves
The contractor will have a rescue plan in place and a safety briefing will be conducted prior to each climb.
Park personnel will be onsite for each climb and will remain on site to monitor work until the climbers have completed their work.
Contractor will provide a schedule that includes travel and detail of work for each day. Contractor will be responsible for transport of climbing personnel to and from the work site and will be responsible for any required lodging.
Contractor will provide all need tools to complete assign work. This will include any test equipment need to perform sweeps of the antenna and transmission cable.
