About this file
Summary
This is a General Requirements specification document for the State of Kansas building construction projects, specifically for an on-call roofing contract with the Kansas Department of Corrections. The document establishes comprehensive requirements for roofing work including removal of existing asphalt shingles and underlayment, replacement of flashings, and installation of new SBS Modified shingle roof systems. The scope of work encompasses selective demolition, miscellaneous rough carpentry, wood sheathing, and thermal and moisture protection systems. The specification requires the contractor to furnish all labor, materials, and equipment necessary to complete the work in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and industry standards. A pre-construction conference is mandatory, and the contractor must submit a written construction schedule one week prior to work commencement for owner approval. The contractor must coordinate all activities to minimize interference with the owner's operations and provide at least 72 hours' notice for activities affecting operations.
The contract requires the successful bidder to provide a Performance Bond in an amount equal to 100 percent of the contract value and maintain comprehensive insurance coverage including Workers' Compensation with $100,000 Employers' Liability limits, Commercial General Liability of at least $500,000 per occurrence, and Automobile Liability of $500,000 combined. The contractor must provide a five-year warranty on the roofing system covering repairs and replacements for defects attributable to ordinary wear and tear or deficiencies in materials or workmanship. The specification requires SBS Modified shingles meeting UL Class "A" standards with minimum 235 pounds per square weight, 110 MPH wind warranty, and 50-year limited material warranty. All materials must be delivered in manufacturer's original containers, and the contractor is responsible for site preparation, debris removal, and restoration of existing conditions. The document establishes that the prospective bidder must visit the site to assess work conditions and verify all dimensions before submitting a bid.
