About this file
This document includes a technical specification for an X-ray Diffractometer and related federal contract opportunity. The specification describes the intended use of the X-ray Diffractometer to examine geologic, mineral, paleontological and archeological samples through x-ray diffraction to determine crystallinity and chemical composition. Key requirements for the system include a 3kW continuously rated copper x-ray tube, cross beam optics with flat mirror, high accuracy vertical goniometer, sample stage, multiple position sample changer, diffracted beam optics assembly including an anti-scattering beam path and detectors. Related software and accessories must also be provided. The federal contract opportunity is seeking quotes for one Rigaku Benchtop CT Scanner and one Rigaku X-ray Diffraction System for the Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management Utah Region. The solicitation number is 140L5722Q0040 and quotes are due by the date specified in the full solicitation document.

Text version
X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD) Intended purpose and use The intended use is to examine geologic samples (rocks, cores) and mineral, paleontological, and archeological samples using x-ray diffraction (XRD) to determine the crystallinity and chemical composition (atomic structure) of the samples. The purpose of the X-ray Diffractometer is to identify clay minerals, other industrial minerals, and hard rock minerals and their respective amounts in both qualitative and quantitative presence on a percentage basis if two or more mineral phases occur within a rock. Potential samples include ore samples, basic hand samples, core samples various cultural objects all that require a non-destructive examination of internal structures
