Text version

Minimum specifications required.

This system is being purchased to support the Unit’s aerial application spray nozzle atomization research efforts. As such, the following requirements represent the minimum level of performance to meet the established research needs:

- Real time imaging of spray structures and droplets.

- Capable of measurement droplet diameters from 2 to 4500 um.

- Capable of measurement of droplet directional vector.

- Capable of measurement of droplet velocity range 0 – 120 m/s.

- Dynamic measurement range >150

- Working distance > 1m

- Capable of field of view (depending on magnification) of up to 10 mm2

- Imaging capability of >10,000 droplet per second.

- Instrumentation and sensor shall provide for non-invasive measurement of spray cloud.

- Capable of detection of air inclusions or other foreign matter in droplet and non-spherical drops.

- System shall provide for integrated controls, operation and data processing.

- Minimum statistics reported shall include: 10, 50 and 90% volume diameters, full dynamic size distribution, number of particles captured, droplet velocity dimension vector, number, area and volume-based distributions, and deviations on all data.

- Shall provide for saving imaging data for presentation or post-analysis.

- Imaging systems should provide for set magnification levels associated with specified droplet size ranges and should provide established and verified calibrations for image processing.

- The test environments for intended use represent heavy spray, high wind speed environments such that system should be protected against dusty, wet, heavy sprays, and possibly immersion conditions, meaning a minimum ingress protection rating IP67.

- Due to safety issues, any system utilizing laser systems to provide backlighting must have engineering controls or other to ensure laser is classified as a Class 1 laser.
