About this file

This document is a detailed Statement of Work for a Walk-in Seed Storage Cooler Unit for the USDA ARS Corn Host Plant Resistance Research Unit at Mississippi State University. The unit requires an 18'8" long x 13' wide x 7'10" temperature and humidity-controlled chamber to store seed germplasm, with specifications including maintaining a 45-degree Fahrenheit temperature (±5 degrees) and 30% relative humidity (±2%). The refrigeration system must use newer Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) refrigerants, specifically a Split system with R448A or R449A, Trenton brand condenser, and a low-profile evaporator with dehumidification capabilities.

The procurement is driven by the current 30-year-old seed cooler's frequent breakdowns, which are putting critical seed germplasm development and collection at risk. The evaluation criteria will focus on personnel qualifications, technical capability, team experience with similar projects, and pricing. The unit includes additional features such as a 36" personnel door, 3 two-tube 4' vapor-proof fluorescent light fixtures, Galvalume texture finish, and an anti-microbial interior. The vendor must provide a one-year warranty covering parts, labor, and expenses from the date of startup and acceptance.
