About this file
This specification document outlines requirements for a mobile weather radar system. The USDA Agricultural Research Service is soliciting bids for the purchase of a mobile dual-polarization X-band weather radar with a range of 100-150 km, velocity detection up to 64 m/s, 250W peak power transmitter, and 30" diameter parabolic antenna. Key requirements include 2.95° beamwidth, 35.5 dBi gain, 5 dBZ sensitivity at 60 km, variable PRF from 500-2000 Hz, up to 4200 range bins per radial, and GMAP clutter filtering over 50 dB. The radar must integrate with the EWR RCPE scan controller and WeatherScout display software to provide real-time PPI, RHI, volume, and sector scans from -5° to 90° elevation at up to 14 RPM. Winning bidders will provide a mast/trailer-mounted radar system for use by researchers in Stillwater, OK and Columbia, MO to monitor weather phenomena impacting dams, spillways, and irrigation infrastructure.

Required Equipment Specifications
The USDA-ARS Agroclimate and Hydraulic Engineering Research Unit (AHERU), Stillwater, OK of the
Oklahoma and Central Plains Agricultural Research Center is requesting the purchase of a Mobile
Weather Radar with an option to buy a second one. The Mobile Weather Radar will be used by AHERU staff in Stillwater, OK and collaborators at the ARS Columbia, MO location and the University of Missouri to perform data acquisition of high-resolution weather data that is key for decision makers to plan, prepare, mitigate, and adapt to changing weather phenomena. This equipment will be a key component in the monitoring of dams, spillways, channels, streams, and grade stabilization structures affected by these changing weather phenomena and in the development of early warning systems for end-users like dam owners, dam operators, emergency managers, irrigation district managers, municipalities, and recreation and tourism bureaus.
The following is a list of specified requirements for the mobile weather radar:
