Description of Action:
The USDA‐ARS Pecan Breeding and Genetics program in conjunction with the NCGR‐Pecans and
Hickories evaluates crop diversity and breeding materials in multiple orchards spanning hundreds of acres. For breeding and maintenance work, we will routinely spray pecan orchards with foliar fertilizers, insecticides, and fungicides. The use of a cab tractor is essential to protect the driver from contact with applications. A cab Low‐profile utility tractor would also minimize the amount of fertilizer dust the driver is exposed to during spring and summer applications. Orchard maintenance is routinely done throughout winter, and a cab tractor would allow the driver less exposer to cold temperatures. The program would utilize this machine in those research endeavors.
