PURCHASE DESCRIPTION
1. Statement of Need and Purpose: The purchase of this acquisition is to procure, on a brand name or equivalent basis, one (1) IX73 with phase contrast DP74 Camera for marmoset tissues and other mammalian culture cells and in the transgenic marmoset core.
2. Background Information and Objective: The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), conducting research into the causes, treatment, and prevention of neurological disorders and stroke. The NINDS mission is to seek fundamental knowledge about the brain and nervous system and to use that knowledge to reduce the burden of neurological disease.
NINDS has established a new Transgenic Marmoset Core Facility which performs innovative, high-profile non-human primates transgenesis research. The core is seeking to purchase a high-performance inverted microscope that can enable the accuracy and repeatability for efficient research experiments. The Marmoset core requires imaging systems for marmoset tissues and other mammalian cells. To acquisition images from cultured transgenic and wild type marmoset tissues for genetic analyses by fluorescent protein expressions and to produce lentiviral vectors that is essential for introducing transgene into marmoset embryos, inverted phase-contrast microscopy system for visualization of the objects by bright field and fluorescence is required. Especially, for producing lentiviral vector particles, transfection efficiencies of lenti vector plasmids into mammalian cells need to be checked by fluorescent protein expressions. With this system, transgenic marmoset can be generated. This system shall include an inverted phase-contrast microscope with fluorescence imaging capability, digital camera, and computer system.
