1.3 Project Background: Building 6414 is used for research development, specimen preservation, and testing. The building contains an outdoor electrical main distribution switchboard enclosure/cabinet dating back over 30+ years that has reached its useful life. The switchgear enclosure is severely dilapidated with corrosion, rust and subjected to water leaks entering the enclosure during rainy days along the top, back and sides. New switchboard shall be 2000A with a 1800A main breaker. A new 1500kva transformer will be identified for furnishing and installation as an add-alternate for this project. Add alternate shall be broken out to reflect equipment cost and labor associated with installation in the event the new transformer is Government furnished. New transformer pad and transformer shall be installed at stub-up location of spare 4” conduits in the front grass which are identified on the construction drawings. Once the power transfer takes place for new switchgear and new transformer, the existing cabinet, switches, transformer, wiring and components shall be removed and disposed of by the contractor.
