Observatory Campground Host Site Improvements
Q&A’s Part 2
Question 4: In reference to the electrical trench details shown on Detail C, Sheet 5. Is there utility work involved that is not clearly indicated on the plan? Note 1 indicates to consult with local utility for trenching requirements.
Answer 4: No, note 1 is not job specific to this project. We have this note in case trenching is specifically for a SDG&E line, AT&T connection, main, tie in etc. Obtaining a company utilities trench detail will not be necessary for this project.
Question 5: Are there any photos of the site, or electrical boxes that currently exist?
Answer 5: I have attached some photos, however, all interested parties should visit the site to evaluate the site conditions.
Question 6: Do you have civil drawings showing existing TOP & new grades so we can determine the cuts and fills?
Answer 6: A site survey was not completed for this project.
Question 7: What wire size is expected to be installed? What is the Electrical serving? What is the expected amp rating? Does the Forest Service have any further specific detail?
Answer 7: Due to placing concrete above existing electrical lines the Forest Service wants the electrical conduit encased in PVC to pull wire though under the concrete if need be. The Forest Service determined it would be too difficult or nearly impossible to encase the existing electrical conduit in PVC, therefore the contract states the contractor shall hire a licensed electrician, trench and install new electrical conduit in PVC. The new conduit shall be the same size as existing and the host electrical pedestal shall provide the same current amp rating as it does not now and meet the current NEC standards. If it is determined the existing conditions are not up to NEC standards, the contractor shall bring the electrical up to NEC standards. The existing amps and size of conduit can be determined by the licensed electrician making a visit to the site. The above ground electrical pedestal will be serving and host’s RV or trailer. The Forest Service does not have any further specific information.
