SECTION 13200

WATER TANK

GENERAL

SUMMARY

This Section shall consist of furnishing and installing the following:

Adjust list below to suit project.

1,000 gallon polyethylene water tank.

Plumbing connections and appurtenances.

EDIT: Only INDIVIDUAL water meters are covered in the this section. If the meter will be installed in a chlorinator box, pumphouse, or other utility box, it will be covered in the “Plumbing Appurtenances” Spec.

DEFINITIONS

Retain abbreviations that remain after this Section has been edited.

GSP: Galvanized Steel Pipe.

P.E.: Polyethylene COR: Contracting Officer’s Representative.

SUBMITTALS

Manufacturer’s data for the water tank.

DELETE unneeded items below.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

All work is to be completed according to applicable Federal, State and Local codes. This work includes, but is not limited to, materials, installation, testing and disinfection NSF Compliance: Comply with NSF 14 for plastic potable water service piping. Include marking “NSF-pw” on the tank.

DELETE first subparagraph below if NSF 14 is not applicable. NSF 14 applies to plastic (HDPE and PVC) water pipes.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Tank shall have a minimum capacity of 1000 gallons.

DELETE this Article if there are no existing utilities. Coordinate with requirements specified in Division 1 Section "Temporary Facilities and Controls" for temporary utilities.

COORDINATION

EDIT this Article to suit Project if new water-service piping will connect to existing piping.

Coordinate connection to existing waterlines with COR.

Pay Item 13200(01) will be for “each” water tank furnished and installed. This shall include excavation and backfill, connection to water supply and existing water distribution system.

Pay Item 13200(02) will be for each linear foot (“L.F”) of 1 inch polyethylene (PE) pipe installed, and shall include trenching and backfill, connecting to new well drilled under Section 02670, and to the existing water distribution system.

PRODUCTS

WATER TANK

Water tank shall be manufactured by ProTank, American Tank, Norwesco, or other approved manufacturer to meet these specifications.

Tank shall be a flat bottom, vertical design Minimum capacity shall be 1,000 gallons. Tank shall be constructed of black or dark green polyethylene to prevent sunlight penetration.

Tank shall comply with NSF 14 for plastic potable water service piping. Include marking “NSF-pw” on the tank.

Tank shall be self venting with screened, weather proof openings.

DELETE pipe types that are not needed.

EXECUTION

TANK INSTALLATION

Prepare a level pad for tank placement. Excavated material shall be used to fill low areas of the pad.

Remove all exposed rocks from the bottom of the pad. Compact the fill material with several passes of the excavation equipment. Bed the surface of the pad with a 3 inch layer of ¾” minus road base.

Prepare 4 tiedowns by driving 4 steel T-bar fence posts to 3 foot depth. Locate posts to align with hold down locations provided on the tank..

Install the tank on the pad. Use 3/16” steel cable and steel turnbuckles to secure to hold down locations provided on the tank

WATER LINE INSTALLATION

Trench to a minimum depth of 12 inches from the well head to the tank pad. Connect water line to the well head. Lay pipe to the existing water distribution system. Cut the existing system from its source and install a Tee. Continue from the Tee to the tank pad. Install a drain in the pipe where it crosses Willow Creek. Support the PE pipe over the span of Willow Creek using a 2 inch GSP sleeve, supported on both banks of the creek Connect water line to the tank according to all manufacturer’s recommendations
