Questions & Answers:

Will downspouts be required for the gutters?

No downspouts will be required for the front doors of the Red Canyon Duplex. One downspout will be needed for the long section of gutter on the back of the Red Canyon Duplex.

Downspouts will be required for all gutters at the Dutch John Trailers.

http://www.sam.gov/

Can Ridge Vent be installed instead of the Passive Roof Vents called out on the drawings and specifications?

Yes. We will change the roof venting on all three of the roofs to the following:

- Remove all existing passive roof vents and patch holes.

- Install continuous ridge vents for entire ridge on all three buildings.

- Do not install the passive roof vents that are currently called out on the drawings and specifications.

- Roof patches shall be structurally sound to support live and dead loads.

If additional material is needed to complete the work on the Red Canyon Duplex, who is responsible for providing the material?

All the materials that will be provided by the Government are shown on Sheet A1.04. If any additional materials are needed, that would be the responsibility of the Contractor. Quantities provided and their layout are shown on sheet A1.04. All accessories and any other additional materials needed for a completed project are the responsibility of the Contractor.

Will the Forest Service load the existing government provided materials onto the contractor’s trailer at the Dutch John Warehouse?

Yes. The Government has a forklift at the Warehouse and will load the Government provided materials onto the Contractor’s trailer at the Dutch John Warehouse Yard.

Is the Manila Dump open?

Yes. The dump is open, but it has restrictions.

The roof at Red Canyon appears to already have OSB sheathing over the entire roof. Is new OSB sheathing required as called out on drawing A1.01?

No. New sheathing for the entire roof can be removed from the contract. However, there may be areas that require the sheathing to be replaced due to leaks, etc. Once the shingles have been removed, the Contractor will examine the roof and replace any rotted areas. For bidding purposes, the Contractors are to assume 10% of the roof will need the sheathing replaced. It was originally anticipated that the existing sheathing was skip sheathing, but it now appears that it is OSB for the entire roof.

Who is responsible for dealing with the Power Company and power disconnect in order to do the roofing?

The Contractor. The Forest Service will allow the power to be shut off to the building for a short period of time to install the new roofing in that area. The Contractor shall provide notice to the

Forest Service one week in advance of disconnect.

How many layers of existing shingles are there on the Dutch John Roofs?

Building 3022 appears to have one layer of existing and 3023 has two existing layers.

Changes (See Revised Drawings):

a. Sheet A1.03 (Roof 3022) shows five existing square roof penetrations (see key not 11, excluding passive vents) that will now be replaced with round penetrations. Remove the existing square penetrations on all five and install new round flashing for four of the five and patch the hole for the fifth and roof over it. The square penetration that will be patched over is for the swamp cooler. The contractor will remove the swamp cooler, leave it onsite for the government, and patch the hole left by the unit.

b. Sheet A1.04 (Roof 3023) shows six existing square roof penetrations (see key not 10, excluding passive vents) that will now be replaced with round penetrations. Remove the existing square penetrations on all six and install new round flashing for four of the six and patch the hole for the other two and roof over them. The square penetrations that will be patched over were for the swamp coolers. The swamp coolers have already been removed.

c. Sheet A1.04 (Roof 3023). The roof will now receive continuous rain gutter along the entire length of the roof on the front and back of the building with downspouts. This changes the total length of gutter required on Roof 3023 from 20 feet to 136 feet and three inches. The roof will be constructed so that the new metal hangs slightly over the edge of the existing roofline and dump water into the new gutters.

d. Sheet A1.03 (Roof 3022). The roof will now receive a new aluminum fascia over the existing 8-inch wood fascia. This will require 183 feet of new 8-inch aluminum fascia installed over the existing fascia.
