The drilling equipment shall be capable of drilling to a depth of not less than 250 feet through whatever material is encountered.
The casing installed within the hole shall be kept straight, plumb, and concentric within limits that will pennit satisfactmy installation and operation of a line shaft turbine pump at the pumping depth. The contractor shall demonstrate by suitable methods that compliance with the above requirements has been obtained. A well which is unsatisfacto 1y by reason of inaccurate or faulty alignment or negligence of the contractor shall be backfilled and a new well completed at a nearby location at no cost to the Government.
The well casing shall be PVC and shall be adequately sized to achieve the desired pumping rates. It shall have a minimum outside diameter of 16 inches and a minimum inside diameter of 15 inches. It shall be installed in the approximate proportions of 160 feet plain PVC and 80 feet perforated PVC.
The gravel pack shall be designed to conform to the gradation of the water bearing strata and shall be approved prior to the installation. All gravel shall be carefully graded, washed and selected so as to prevent sand pumping. Gravel shall be of rounded materials of durable quality, free from calcareous and flat shale and elongated material. Thickness of the gravel pack shall be not less than 3 inches and generally not more that 9 inches.
The contractor shall furnish all necessaiy pumps, compressors, plungers, or other needed equipment and shall develop the well as necessary to give the maximum yield per feet of drawdown, and extract from the water bearing fmmation the maximum practicable quantity of such sands as may be during the life of the well, be drawn through the gravel pack when the well is pumped under maximum conditions of drawdown.
The contractor shall provide the necessaiy test pump, labor, tools, material, and equipment to test pump the well. The test shall consist of pumping the well to the intended yield with time and pumping levels detennined mutually by the contractor and the Contracting Officer's Representative.
After test pumping is completed, the well shall be capped with a concrete cap or other suitable material.
4. Component Specifications:
A. Well Pumps: The contractor shall furnish and install a new oil lubricated, deep well vertical turbine pump; complete with sufficient stages necessaiy to deliver from 800 to 1600 G.P.M. assuming a pressure of 35 PSI at the top of the pivot. In the event that a system operates more efficiently with a different pressure, the design pressure figure should be used to detennine the stage requirements. The pump bowls shall be installed so that the top of the bowls are approximately 20 feet below the pumping water level at an estimated depth of between 140 - 160 feet. The pumps are to be designed in accordance with the latest standards of the Hydraulic Institute, Ve1tical Turbine Pump Association and AWHA Standard ElOl-61.
Concrete pump foundation shall be included in the bid and installed by contractor. It shall be 4 'x 4' x 6" thick with #4, minimum, rebar reinforcement, 12 " on center, both ways.
B. Pump Bowls: The castings shall be free of blow holes, sand holes and other detrimental defects. The bowls shall be capable of withstanding a hydrostatic pressure equal to twice the pressure at rated capacity or 1 Yz times shutoff head, whichever is greater. Bowls may be equipped with replaceable seal rings on the suction side of impellors appropriate for an electric drive well. The discharge case shall be provided with a means ofreducing to a minimum the leakage of water into the shaft enclosing tube, and must have bypass ports of sufficient area to permit the escape of water that leaks through the seal or bushing. Bowls shall be adjusted for the most efficient pump operation.
C. Impellors: The impellors shall be bronzed, appropriate for a 100 HP VFD controlled vertical turbine pump driven electric motor, and shall be statically balanced. They shall be securely fastened to the impellor shaft with keys, taper bushings, or lock nuts. They shall be adjustable vertically by means of a nut in the pump head.
D. Pump Shaft: The pump shaft shall be turned and ground and it shall be supported by bearings above and below each impellor.
E. Line Shafts: The line shafts shall be ground, of carbon steel (AISI C-1045), and be not less than 1 Yz inches in diameter.
