GREENHOUSE SYSTEM
13 34 13
PART ONE - GENERAL
1.01 Requirements Included
A. Furnish and install the greenhouse as hereinafter specified and shown on the drawings.
Where the drawings and the specifications are in conflict the specifications shall govern. Dimensions shown are nominal and may vary according to manufacturer’s standards provided the area covered is not less than that shown
B. General Conditions that shall apply to this contract are the “General Conditions of the Contract for Construction” Owner’s current edition.
C. Acceptable greenhouse manufacturers are Ludy Greenhouse Manufacturing, Nexus Corporation, Rough Brothers, Winandy Greenhouse Company, Stuppy Greenhouse, Erie Structures, Albert J. Lauer Inc. or approved equal.
D. All control panels are to be UL Listed Assemblies, and all equipment is to carry a UL Listing.
1.02 Summary
A. This portion of the specifications does not cover the furnishing of the concrete, grouting, masonry work of any description, plumbing, electrical (either power supply or control wiring), utility connections. These items shall be the responsibility of other trades.
1.03 Plans and Submittals
A. A complete set of shop drawings including details and shop drawings listed in 1.03 B herein shall be submitted by the greenhouse manufacturer for approval prior to fabrication. Submittals shall also include structural calculations and data on all equipment, glazing and doors supplied by greenhouse manufacturer. Submittals shall meet structural requirements of the International Building Code. Plans and calculations shall be signed and sealed by a licensed engineer in the state of Ohio. Provide five (5) sets of sealed greenhouse plans by an Ohio Professional Engineer.

Calculations
C. Design Calculations shall be provided using the design criteria shown on the cover sheet of the drawings.
1.04 Erection of Greenhouse
A. The greenhouse shall be erected by the greenhouse manufacturer or by a qualified greenhouse specialty contractor approved in writing by the manufacturer. The greenhouse contractor shall have at least five years of experience in building greenhouses of the type submitted for approval. No masonry, foundation, or footer installation will be made prior to approval of the greenhouse plans.
B. The greenhouse erection shall be in strict accordance with the selected greenhouse manufacturer’s written installation instructions and plans.
PART TWO - PRODUCTS
2.01 Standard of Quality
A. All structures shall be designed to requirements of the International Building Code.
B. Greenhouse structure(s) shall be designed in accordance with current AISI Specifications for Design of Cold - Formed Steel Structural Members and AISC Specifications for Structural Steel Buildings. Greenhouse structure(s) shall include sufficient bracing for the resistance to wind forces. Bottom chord members as well as other truss members shall be adequate to resist compressive loads produced by horizontal wind loads and roof uplift produced by wind.
2.02 Materials and Components
A. Structures shall be designed and detailed according to accepted engineering practice.
Framing shall consist of trusses on 12'-0" centers spanning the full width of the structure with a 6/12 roof pitch.
B. Primary framing shall be 50,000 P.S.I. yield strength steel.
1. Trusses shall be of 2" square steel tube (or heavier) with welded connections.
Trusses shall ship from factory assembled in no more than two pieces ready to attach at the post connection. All tolerances shall be held to an absolute minimum in order to secure proper fit of the steel members.
2. Truss support posts shall be 4" square steel tube (or heavier) furnished and placed at all truss bearing locations.
| 3. | Galvanized steel roof purlins, of size required, shall be prefabricated before shipment from greenhouse manufacturer. |
| 4. | Provide all other structural members required to complete the framework of the greenhouse that are not mentioned above such as; bracing, clips, lugs, girts, and fasteners. |
C. Secondary framing shall be extruded aluminum, members such as roof bars, ridge, sash, etc... Members shall be mill finish, with appropriate heat treatment of alloy 6063-T6 or 6063-T5. Sheet aluminum shall be of alloy 3003-h14.
2.03 Fasteners
A. All structural connections shall be attached with hot dip galvanized (ASTM-307 bolts) or stainless steel fasteners. All aluminum to aluminum connections shall have aluminum or stainless steel fasteners. All screws and self-tapping screws shall be stainless steel or hot dip galvanized.
2.04 Gutters
A. Gutters shall be 12 gauge steel fabricated for connection at the post tops, and also to accept roof and side wall glazing closures. Gutters shall be hot dip galvanized after fabrication. Gutter drops/tubes shall be provided for the Southside of the structure. Downspouts to be provided by plumbing contractor.
2.05 Expansion and Condensation Control
A. All members shall handle expansion individually to prevent an accumulation of expansion in one direction from several members. Roof glazing bars shall incorporate condensation channels to conduct primary condensation to disposal points at gutter.
2.06 Glazing
A. POLYCARBONATE Double-skinned sheets - 8mm Lexan clear ThermoClear Plus double skinned sheets held in place with aluminum extrusion glazing system being Ludy or equivalent. Supplementary materials shall be compatible with Polycarbonate sheets. Expansion and contraction shall be provided for. Polycarbonate sheets shall have UV protection. Substitutions for the ThermoClear Plus Lexan will not be allowed.
B. 2” Thick Metal Faced Exterior Tongue and Groove insulated panel, prepainted stucco embossed .032 thick aluminum, 3105 alloy, H-14 temper for both inner and outer face. Paint finish shall be baked on siliconized polyester, USDA approved, in Polar White Color. Core insulation shall be:
| 1. | Virgin expanded polystyrene with a minimum 1.0 lb/cu foot density having a K factor of .24BTU/sq. ft./HRl°F mean temperature. Joints may occur in foam core up to 3/8" in random locations. |
| 2. | Extruded polystyrene with a minimum of 1.50 lb/cu ft density having a K factor of 0.19 BTU/sq. ft/HR!°F at 40 degrees mean temperature. Joints may occur in foam core up to 3/8" in random locations insulation planed smooth to |
nominal thickness prior to lamination.
2.07 Vents Components
A. ROOF VENTS: Double run of 3’ motorized ridge vent, with rack and pinion apparatus being operated with Wadsworth VC2000 ILS vent machines or approved equivalent, shall be made up of a top rail, bottom rail and mullions of extruded aluminum and bolted together in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. All vents shall have provisions made at the hinge point to prevent creeping of the vents. Vents shall be the size indicated on the drawings with a continuous socket hinge, arranged to open out. Vents, when assembled and installed, shall be continuous from one end to the other.
B. GABLE VENT: 4’ motorized gable vent, with rack and pinion outside apparatus being operated with Wadsworth VC2000 ILS vent machines or approved equivalent, shall be made up of a top rail, bottom rail and mullions of extruded aluminum and bolted together in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. All vents shall have provisions made at the hinge point to prevent creeping of the vents. Vents shall be the size indicated on the drawings with a continuous socket hinge, arranged to open out. Vents, when assembled and installed, shall be continuous from one end to the other.
2.08 Vent Operators
A. RACK AND PINION ARMS: All vents shall be operated with rack and pinion system consisting of aluminum rack arm, aluminum housing and zinc pinion gear assemblies. Racks are attached to bottom rail of vents with aluminum clips and zinc plated steel cotter pins. No less than two sets of rack and pinion arms shall be provided for each 12’ section on vent. Provide 1.66" diameter galvanized drive shaft with bolt connection couplings. Shaft hangers with nylatron bushings shall be provided to support roof and side/gable vent drive shaft.
2.09 Automatic Vent Machines
A. Ventilators as indicated on drawings shall be operated by:
1. Manufacturer shall provide Wadsworth VC2000 ILS vent machines, or approved equivalent. The power unit shall be provided with a quick reversing single phase motor with sufficient power to operate the sash as required, complete with open and close limit switches.
2.10 Mechanical – all units to be 120 volt single phase
A. Exhaust Fans: Two Aluminum Slant wall fans per zone 115V single phase, one (1) single speed and one (1) two speed with slant-wall housings, shutters, and guards. Fans to be selected to provide 23,040 cfm. Acceptable manufacturers: Schaefer Ventilation, American Coolair and Acme Engineering.
B. HAF Fans: Two (2) 12” Schaefer Versa-Kool VK12 HAF circulation fans per zone and Head House with wall hanging brackets and operating on 115 volts.

C. Heaters: Two (2) Natural gas fired unit heaters with minimum of 80% efficiency, complete with heater hanging kit, penetration panels, and vent pipe kits. Heater size to be based upon maintaining 60° @ -10° outside. Heaters are to operate on 115 volt/single phase power. Acceptable manufacturers: Modine, Reznor or approved equal. AGA approved, 24 volt temperature control, control transformer 120 V ac/24 V ac., 50°-90° EF operator range. Heaters to comply with NFPA 54 “National Fuel Gas Code”.
D. Evaporative Cooling System: Provide all necessary framing and control provisions for a 4” x 25’ x 4’ Self Contained Evaporative Cooling System. Acceptable manufacturers: Schaefer Ventilation, American Coolair or Acme Engineering.
E. Environmental Controls: Provide one (1) Wadsworth VersiStep environmental control system, or approved equivalent, complete with custom built contactor panel and control wiring diagram, Step Saver computer interface software and alarm manager. Control system to operate: one fan single speed, one (1) fan with two (2) speeds, two (2) roof vent motors, , two (2) heaters, two (2) HAF fans, one (1) curtain motor, one (1) gable vent motor, one (1) control for the evaporative cooling system and ten (10) circuits for HID lights. The lighting contactors shall be included in the greenhouse manufacturer’s connector panel package: ten (10) circuits for HID lights, five (5) lights per circuit.
F. Weather Station: Provide one (1) Wadsworth Weather station, or approved equivalent, to be fully integrated with the Wadsworth VersiStep control system. Location of weather station shall be acceptable to Owner and Greenhouse Consultant but will be within 75' of the new greenhouse structure.
G. Include one day on site owner training on control system.
2.11 Walk-In Doors and Hardware
A. Provide heavy duty, clear anodized, 6063-T6 aluminum tubular frame members fabricated with mechanical joints. Provide 1 ¾” thick, wide stile doors with mortised and reinforced corners. Stiles 1 ¾” x 5 ¼”, Jamb 1 ¾” x 4” with integrated stop, bottom rail 1 ¾” x 6”, top rail 1 ¾” x 3 ½”. Fabricate doors to facilitate replacement of glass or panels, without disassembly of stiles and rails. Provide snap-on extruded aluminum glazing stops, with exterior stops anchored for non-removal. Glaze door lights with ¼” tempered clear float glass glazed with captive plastic gaskets. Hardware preparation shall specifically allow installation of BHMA standard locksets, incorporating BHMA standard backsets and installation of lock cylinders. Lock cylinders shall be compatible with the Owner’s security hardware requirements. Acceptable manufacturers are Best Access by Best Lock Corporation, Schlage, or approved equal.
B. Doors to be pre-hung in aluminum jambs with integral weather-strip and stops with 6” x ½” aluminum thresholds in full bed of sealant.

C. Door hardware shall consist of (1) Hager 5100 Series Grade 1 Closer (field installed)
(3) Hager BB1191 Ball Bearing 4.5 SS hinges, (1) Stanley #15D Lever Handle W/ 73KCL3 Latch, Door sweep and Weather-stripping.
2.12 Overhead Doors
A. Provide a complete roll-up overhead locking door system. Provide life axle: door axle rotates in bracket bearing during operation. Provide drums, stamped, continuously welded at the hub. 12" diameter spiral x 1-1/2" wide. 16-gauge, zinc-coated steel. Four drums prevent panels from bowing. Provide EP3 Springs, helical torsion, oil tempered, and coated to halt corrosion and increase life. Two springs per door. Provide tensioning system, springs come with a zinc-coated cast steel tension wheel and winding bar for ease of adjusting spring tension. Provide axle, 1-5/16" outside diameter, high-yield structural steel tubing. Provide curtain, roll-formed sections, factory-seamed from 26- gauge, Grade 80 galvanized steel. Siliconized polyester finish in eleven standard colors. Full-length 2" felt tape located at each drum. Provide bottom assembly, zinc coated steel bottom angle mounted to corrosion resistant aluminum extrusion with stainless steel bolts. TPE blade astragal also included. Provide brackets, 12-gauge, cold-formed, zinc- coated steel. Grease-packed ball bearings are factory installed in the bracket. Provide guides, pre-punched 16-gauge, galvanized, 2-3/4” deep. Featuring polypropylene guide runners to prevent steel on steel contact. Provide interior lock, 12 gauge, zinc coated steel slide bolt, and lock strike, two locks per door. Provide mounting fasteners, steel fasteners. Provide door stop, 12-gauge, zinc-coated, L-shaped door stops mounted to guides. Provide exterior handle, powder coated, zinc-plated outside handle. Provide pull rope handle, molded plastic rope handle with long-lasting rope. Acceptable manufacturer’s basis of design, Trac-Rite Model 955WL, Clopay Model 157C, or Wayne Dalton DS 100. Provide locking devices, equip door with locking device assembly and chain lock keeper. Provide manual door operator, chain-hoist operator (for service door): (1) Provide operator with through-wall shaft operation and (2) Provide operator with manufacturer’s standard removable operating arm. Provide door finish, baked- enamel or powder-coated finish: Color as selected by Owner from manufacturer’s full range. Provide general finish requirements (1) Comply with NAAMM’s “Metal Finishes Manual for Architectural and Metal Products” for recommendations for applying and designating finishes; and (2) Appearance of finished work: Noticeable variations in same piece are not acceptable. Variations in appearance of adjoining components are acceptable if they are within the range of approved samples and are assembled or installed to minimize contrast.
2.13 Benches
A. Benches to be supplied by Owner.
PART THREE - EXECUTION
3.01 Instructions
A. Instruct/Train owner on use of greenhouse and all systems. Provide three (3) hard copy and one (1) digital copy operation and maintenance manuals to owner.
3.02 Warranties
A. The greenhouse structure(s) shall be free from all defects in materials and workmanship for one year from construction completion. All coverings will carry the respective manufacturer's warranties.
