Bid Item Descriptions

EZ 1: EZ 1 was harvested the spring of 2015. There is a residual over story of approximately 30 basal area (BA) or approximately 50 trees per acre. The unit is accessed via Forest Road (FR) 2288 which is typically 2 wheel drive accessible when dry or frozen. The unit will be site prep harrowed for natural regeneration of hardwoods and spruce. In addition the northern 200 feet of the unit closest to the lake will be site prep harrowed for planting white pine. Slopes in the unit range from steep to very steep, Moderate to heavy slash is distributed threw out the unit.

EZ 2: EZ 2 was harvested the spring of 2015. There is a residual over story of approximately 10 basal area (BA) or approximately 12 trees per acre. The unit is accessed via Forest Road (FR) 2187 which is a gravel surfaced road that is 2 wheel drive accessible. The unit will be site prep harrowed for planting white pine. Slopes within the unit range from moderate to flat and there is moderate slash is distributed threw out the unit.

EZ 3: EZ 3 was harvested the winter of 2016. There is a residual over story of approximately 30 basal area (BA) or approximately 50 trees per acre. The unit is accessed via hunter walker trails or FR 2401 and 2401 D the roads are typically 4 wheel drive accessible when dry or frozen. FR 2401 was not used for harvest operations and may need to be cleared to facilitate access. The unit will be site prep harrowed for natural regeneration of paper birch, spruce and hardwoods. Slopes in the unit range from steep to very steep there are several wet inclusions with in the unit boundary that will be avoided.

EZ 4: EZ 4 was harvested the winter of 2016. There is a residual over story of approximately 30 basal area (BA) or approximately 50 trees per acre. The unit is accessed via hunter walker trails or FR 2401 and 2401 D the roads are typically 4 wheel drive accessible when dry or frozen as there are some whet areas that can be soft. FR 2401 was not used for harvest operations and may need to be cleared to facilitate access if the contractor chooses to use that as there access. The unit will be site prep harrowed for natural regeneration of paper birch, spruce and hardwoods. Slopes in the unit range from steep to very steep there are several wet inclusions with in the unit boundary that will be avoided.

EZ 5: EZ 5 was harvested summer of 2015. There is a residual over story of approximately 50 basal area (BA) or approximately 60 trees per acre. The unit is accessed via Forest Road (FR) 2181 which is a gravel surfaced road that is 2 wheel drive accessible. The unit will be site prep harrowed for natural regeneration of paper birch. Slopes within the unit range from moderate to flat and there is moderate slash distributed threw out the unit.

EZ 6: EZ 6 was harvested summer of 2015. There is a residual over story of approximately 60 basal area (BA) or approximately 70 trees per acre. The unit is accessed via Forest Road (FR) 2487 which is a gravel surfaced road that is 2 wheel drive accessible. The unit will be site prep harrowed for natural regeneration of paper birch. Slopes within the unit range from moderate to flat and there is moderate to heavy slash distributed threw out the unit.

EZ 7: EZ 7 was harvested spring of 2015. There is a residual over story of approximately 10 basal area (BA) or approximately 12 trees per acre. The unit is accessed via Forest Road (FR) 2695 which is a natural surface road that is 2 wheel drive accessible during dry times. The unit will be site prep harrowed for natural regeneration of jack pine. Slopes within the unit range from moderate to steep and there is a heavy slash component distributed threw out the unit.

EZ8: EZ 8 was harvested fall of 2015. There is a residual over story of approximately 60 basal area (BA) or approximately 70 trees per acre. The unit is accessed via Forest Road (FR) 2673 which is a natural surface road that is 2 wheel drive accessible during dry times. The unit will be site prep harrowed for natural regeneration of paper birch. Slopes within the unit range from moderate to flat and there is moderate to heavy slash distributed threw out the unit.

EZ9: EZ 9 was harvested fall of 2015. There is a residual over story of approximately 60 basal area (BA) or approximately 70 trees per acre. The unit is accessed via Forest Road (FR) 2181 which is a gravel surfaced road that is 2 wheel drive accessible. The unit will be site prep harrowed for natural regeneration of paper birch. Slopes within the unit range from moderate to flat and there is moderate slash distributed threw out the unit. Private ownership borders the south portion of the unit.

EZ10: EZ 10 was harvested fall of 2015. There is a residual over story of approximately 40 basal area (BA) or approximately 50 trees per acre. The unit is accessed via Forest Road (FR) 2196 which is a gravel surfaced road that is 2 wheel drive accessible. The unit will be site prep harrowed for natural regeneration of paper birch. Slopes within the unit range from moderate to flat and there is moderate to heavy slash distributed threw out the unit.

EZ11: EZ 11 was harvested winter of 2016. There is a residual over story of approximately 40 basal area (BA) or approximately 50 trees per acre. The unit is accessed via Cass county road 9 which is black top road road. The unit will be site prep harrowed for natural regeneration of paper birch. Slopes within the unit range from moderate to flat and there is moderate to heavy slash distributed threw out the unit.

EZ14: EZ 14 was harvested summer of 2015. There is a residual over story of approximately 40 basal area (BA) or approximately 50 trees per acre. The unit is accessed via FR 2164 which is a natural surface road that is 2 wheel drive accessible during dry times. The unit will be site prep harrowed for natural regeneration of paper birch. Slopes within the unit range from moderate to flat and there is moderate to heavy slash distributed threw out the unit.

EZ15: EZ 15 was harvested summer of 2015. There is a residual over story of approximately 30 basal area (BA) or approximately 40 trees per acre. The unit is accessed via FR 2164 which is a natural surface road that is 2 wheel drive accessible during dry times. The unit will be site prep harrowed for natural regeneration of paper birch. The unit will be site prep harrowed for natural regeneration of paper birch. Slopes within the unit range from moderate to flat and there is moderate to heavy slash distributed threw out the unit.

EZ17: EZ 17 was harvested Fall of 2015. There is a residual over story of approximately 40 basal area (BA) or approximately 50 trees per acre. The unit is accessed via a temp road/ skid trail and FR 2164C which is a natural surface road that is 2 wheel drive accessible during dry times. The unit will be site prep harrowed for natural regeneration of paper birch. Slopes within the unit range from moderate to flat and there is moderate to heavy slash distributed threw out the unit.

EZ18: EZ 18 is in an EAGLE ZONE, NO ACTIVITY until after October 1st 2016. It was harvested winter of 2016. The unit is composed of two stands the larger portion to the north and a small 3 acre portion in the south. There is a residual over story of approximately 40 basal area (BA) or approximately 50 trees per acre. The unit is accessed via Cass county road 9 which is black top road road. The unit will be site prep harrowed for natural regeneration of paper birch. Slopes within the unit range from moderate to flat and there is moderate to heavy slash distributed threw out the unit.

EZ19: EZ 19 was harvested winter of 2015. There is a residual over story of approximately 30 basal area (BA) or approximately 40 trees per acre. The unit is accessed via Forest Road (FR) 2145 which is a natural surface road that is 2 wheel drive accessible during dry times. The unit will be site prep harrowed for natural regeneration of paper birch. Slopes within the unit range from moderate to flat and there is moderate to heavy slash distributed threw out the unit.

EZ20: EZ 20 was harvested winter of 2016. There is a residual over story of approximately 70 basal area (BA) or approximately 80 trees per acre. The unit is accessed via Forest Road (FR) U3024 which is a natural surface road that is 2 wheel drive accessible during dry times. The unit will be site prep harrowed for seeding white pine. Slopes within the unit range from moderate to flat and there is heavy slash distributed threw out the unit.

EZ21: EZ 21 was harvested winter of 2016. There is a residual over story of approximately 10 basal area (BA) or approximately 12 trees per acre. The unit is accessed via Forest Road (FR) 2105 which is a natural surface road that is 4 wheel drive accessible during dry times. The road has a temporary slash closure that will have to be replaced when the work is completed. The unit will be site prep harrowed for natural regeneration of paper birch. Slopes within the unit range from moderate to flat and there is very heavy slash distributed threw out the unit.

WZ 1: and WZ 2: Harvested the November 2015. There is a residual over story of approximately 40 basal area (BA). The unit is accessed via Cty. Rd. 31 and FR 2234. The unit will be site prep harrowed for natural regeneration of white pine.

WZ 3: Harvested the spring of 2015. This is a group selection harvest. Site prep in openings for natural regeneration of hardwoods and to prevent aspen suckering. The unit is accessed via Forest Road (FR) 2207 and Forest Road (FR) 2236. (Webster Lake).

WZ 4: Harvested the spring of 2015. Two-age shelterwood with reserves. There is a residual over story of approximately 45 basal area (BA). There is a reserve area along FS 2415 where no site prep will occur.

Site prep after 7/31. The unit will be harrowed for both seeding and planting of white pine and white spruce. The unit is accessed via Forest Road (FR) 2207 and Forest Road (FR) 2236 and FR 2415. (Webster Lake).

WZ 5: Harvested the spring of 2015. Shelterwood with reserves. There is a residual over story of approximately 45 basal area (BA). The unit is accessed via Forest Road (FR) 2207 and Forest Road (FR) 2236. (Webster Lake). There are several vernal pools in stand and low areas that need to be avoided.

The unit will be site prep harrowed for seeding and planting of white pine.

WZ 6: Harvested the spring of 2015. Two-age shelterwood with reserves. There is a residual over story of approximately 50 basal area (BA). The unit will be site prep harrowed for seeding and planting of white pine and white spruce. The unit is accessed via Forest Road (FR) 2207 and Forest Road (FR) 2236 and FR 2415. (Webster Lake). Access the unit from another payment unit to the south and form Fr 3412 spur D.

WZ 7: Harvested the summer of 2015. Two-age shelterwood with reserves. There is a residual over story of approximately 40 basal area (BA). The unit will be site prep harrowed for seeding and planting of white pine and natural seeding of oak. Unit is located south of Hwy 200 and west of Hwy 84, south of Leech Lake. Access via Cty. Rd. 125 and FR 2332.

WZ 8: Harvested the summer of 2015. Two-age shelterwood with reserves. There is a residual over story of approximately 40 basal area (BA). The unit will be site prep harrowed for seeding and planting of white pine and natural seeding of oak. Unit is located south of Hwy 200 and west of Hwy 84, south of Leech Lake. Access via Cty. Rd. 125.

WZ 9: Harvested late fall of 2014. Shelterwood with reserves. There is a residual over story of approximately 55 basal area (BA). The unit will be site prep harrowed for seeding and planting of white pine and white spruce. Unit is located south of Blackduck, on Hwy 39 and FR 2214.

WZ 10: Harvested summer of 2014. Single tree selection followed by salvage harvest. There is a residual over story of approximately 55 basal area (BA). The unit will be site prep harrowed for planting of white pine, in open areas created form harvest. Slash is heavy is some areas. Unit is located south of Highway 2 and can be accessed by FR 2135, Ketchum Road.

WZ 11 and WZ 12: Harvested January 2016. Shelterwood with reserves. There is a residual over story of approximately 35 basal area (BA). The unit will be site prep harrowed for seeding and planting of white pine in WZ 12 and natural seeding of paper birch in stand WZ 11. Unit is located north of Rabideau Lake, on FR 2208.

WZ13: Harvested January of 2016. Clearcut with reserves. There is a residual over story of approximately 20 basal area (BA). There is a reserve area in the SW part of the unit that will not have site prep. So site prep in wet areas throughout the unit. The unit will be site prep harrowed for seeding of white spruce, balsam fir and paper birch. Unit is located east of Hines and Hwy 71, and is accessed via Bel. 300 and FR 3428 and through the timber sale unit to the west.

WZ14 and WZ 15: Harvested January of 2016. Two-aged shelterwood with reserves. There is a residual over story of approximately 50 basal area (BA). The unit will be site prep harrowed for seeding of white spruce, white pine. Unit is located south of Blackduck on Hwy 39, and is accessed FR 2206.

WZ16: Harvested January of 2016. Clearcut with reserves. There is a residual over story of approximately 30 basal area (BA). Unit is located east of Hines and Hwy 71, and is accessed via Bel. 300 and FR 3427.

WZ17: Harvested January of 2016. Seed Tree. There is a residual over story of approximately 15 TPA.

One legacy patch along road that will not have site prep. The unit will be site prep harrowed for natural seeding of paper birch. Unit is located east of Hines and Hwy 71, and is accessed via Bel. 300.
