SPECIFICATIONS
PAVEMENT REPAIR,
RESURFACING, AND CHIP & SEAL
USDA-ARS NORTHERN GREAT PLAINS RESEARCH LAB

LOCATION OF WORK: Main Location Complex Roadways. See attached maps.
SCOPE OF WORK: The contractor shall furnish all the skilled labor, materials, tools, equipment, transportation, and supervision necessary to perform the pavement work. Complete the necessary work to prep pavement, perform edge milling tie-in milling, general milling, and then fill-in and level existing areas to proper grade to do the over-lay. Any drainage issues must be addressed before the over-lay is completed. After over-lay then chip and seal shall be applied to determined areas addressed on the map.
Furnish all materials and equipment for removal of old asphalt areas, milling areas, and patch with new asphalt.
All chip and seal work shall meet the specifications set forth by the City of Bismarck-Mandan North Dakota.
All existing asphalt cracks in the existing asphalt that was not overlaid, but will be chip and sealed are to be cleaned with compressed air and filled with joint sealer before the overlay with the chip and seal materials.
The chip and seal shall include all the prep work of cleaning, sealing, installing and sweeping of the chips. After a minimum of 3 weeks on the roadway and not to exceed 4 weeks the chips shall be swept up and all excess chips will be left on site and stock piled as directed by COR.

Complete 430 linear feet of 48” edge milling. (Red Area)

Complete 60 ton of 2” Asphalt base lift. (Purple Area)

PAVEMENT FORMULA MIX: The pavement formula mix shall be the same formula mix as provided for the pavement overlay mixture as the “State of North Dakota mix design”. The Contractor shall submit for the CO written approval, the job formula mixture to be supplied for the project. The mixture must meet the applicable ASTM Standards.
DRAINAGE: The contractor will make sure that all drainage of the new overlay work is provided for the drainage of the pavement. The contractor must provide for positive drainage to the curb and gutter.
WORKSITE: The Contractor must coordinate with the COR as to the scheduling of the work to be completed as not to interrupt the access, flow, parking, traffic and work of the location at the complex. The COR must approve the work schedule as to provide for the least amount of interruption to the location. The Contractor shall work with the COR as to the staging of heavy equipment. Areas may be off limits as to avoid greater injury to existing pavement and newly laid work.
FINISHING AND CLEANUP: At any time during the contract the COR may direct the contractor, at their own expense, to clean up and remove all refuse and unused materials of any kind resulting from the work. All milled asphalt disposal/removal will be the contractor’s responsibility unless otherwise directed by the COR for the reclamation purposes of the facilities.
WARRANTY: The Contractor shall guarantee all the work against faulty materials and workmanship for a period of one year from date of final payment.
