Statement of Work- BARC-East Campus Fiber Modernization Work will provide connectivity to SciNet (Internet2) and upgrade the standard network fiber infrastructure on the BARC-East Campus. The necessity to replace and upgrade the current fiber network on the campus is directly related to support research projects and the demands therein.

BigData and SciNet are high priority projects and connecting to the system is mandated by the ARS Administrator.

Fiber Optic cable install and termination, National Agricultural Library to Building 307

Contractor shall furnish, deliver and install by method of direct bury installation approximately. 18,700 feet of one (1) 48 strand Single mode fiber optic armored cable from the National Agricultural Library to Building 307.

Contractor shall furnish, deliver and install in existing conduit to building 307C and 307B from building 307, one (1) 12 strand Single mode armored fiber optic cable to each building.

Contractor shall furnish, deliver and install by method of directional bore one (1)

2” conduit sleeve at each road crossing.

Contractor shall furnish and set to grade new hand hole / splice box to assist cable

Placement at USDA specified locations.

Contractor shall furnish and install “buried fiber optic cable” marker / warning post along the route according to USDA specifications.

Contractor shall route cable into the NAL building and building 307 extending to the existing telephone room / equipment rack in each building.

Contractor shall install new Fiber Distribution Panel at the NAL building and building 307 then terminate all 48 strands of fiber at each end.

Perform Bi-Directional OTDR testing on all newly terminated and installed fiber cable.

All material manufacturers and specifications will be approved by the USDA prior to installation.

All marked utilities will be test pitted by the contractor prior to using mechanized equipment.

Miss utility will be notified 72 hours in advance of work. Privately owned utilities to be located by others.

The proposed installation route will remain on USDA property with the exception of County Road crossings.

Installing a conduit sleeve at each road crossing will eliminate the disturbance of any asphalt / concrete roadways.

County provided conduit will be furnished and installed by others or under a separate agreement.
