Comments made at the pre-bid site visit:

Rip rap will be salvaged from the creek and the rest will come out of sunlight pit.

Comments about 8/30/15 completion date where September is usually a pretty good month to work in. CO Commented:

If awarded this fall, will issue a NTP for materials this fall and then work will begin next spring as ground conditions permit.

At that point we’d be past the estimated start date in the solicitation so completion date would be negotiated next spring after NTP for project is issued.

Bridge on site will be cut in ½. If additive is awarded, bridge will be hauled up to the new site, if not, it will be hauled to sunlight pit.

Corner rock may need to be blasted, if not blasted item will not be paid. Ref Item 205(10).

Deck and stringers will be salvaged. Disposal of wing walls is the responsibility of the contractor.

Cast in place can be done but it is burdensome. Cannot be poured against the ground. Must be done in casting and parts in order to be able to move the bridge in the future if necessary.

Dewatering must be done in a slow process to not kill the fish.

Merchantable timber will be decked at the Crandall pit.

Slash will be scattered.

Unsuitable material (dirt, rock) goes to sunlight pit.

Treated material must be taken off-site.

Cattle guard has been installed on the road above bridge. Bid contract as scheduled but cattle guard may not need moving now.

Borrow source is along the roadside above the bridge in the cut slope.

Gates will be place to keep traffic from coming through, 1 near the cabin and 1 near the campground.

Job sequencing: FS Engineer (Grant) - main site to be done first and then install the bridge to allow traffic flow. Longer road closures will need to be cleared by the FS District office and cabin reservations would need to be stopped.

It is very important to read Section L, Instructions, especially L-1 through L-12. Bid bond form can be found on GSA form library. Form SF-24 of October 1998 or newer is current. SF-24 form was attached with the solicitation documents.

Go upstream to dewater either through the side channel or main channel.

Contractors are welcome to camp on site but need to obtain a permit from the district office through COR.

Upper Shields Culvert Replacement:

o Remove and dispose of existing culvert o Material dug out will be used to raise the road bed.

o Gabian rock comes out of the sunlight pit.

o On-site rock can be used.

o Steel running planks should stay on when being cut but if they fall off then need to replace o Barriers can be used for road closure due to the shorter amount of time.

o Camping is allowed with district permit.
