part 2 - PRODUCTS

1.3 MANUFACTURERS

Available Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, products that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the products specified.

1.4 GENERAL

A. The contractor shall provide all of the necessary cables, cards, etc. to integrate into the existing system. The contractor must install and test all of the equipment.

B. Due to the solar thermal gain that the screen is subjected to, the contractor shall address and wherever practical provide material and products that can withstand long term exposure to elevated temperatures.

C. The new screen and MBCAS must be able to withstand heavy use, 7 days per week, 8 hours per day, going up and down and showing a program every half hour, and in some cases, after hours for special events.

1.5 FRONT-PROJECTION SCREENS

A. Material and Viewing Surface of Front-Projection Screens:

1. The new screen must provide proper ratio for showing HD format films, and to support clarity and reflectivity for viewing films shown by the Christie Roadster HD14K-J Digital Projector which is 54 feet 2 inches away from the screen. The lens of this projector is a 1.8-2.6:1 zoom lens. The distance from the bottom of the curtain valance to the floor (behind which the screen box is mounted) measures 15 feet 6 inches.

2. Specifically the new screen needs to be compatible with the center’s existing automated control system and must be made of high strength, highly plasticized, vinyl co-polymer sheets.

3. Seamless Construction: Provide screens without seams. The viewing surface shall be seamless.

4. The screen must be gray/ gray hawk in color for maximum color saturation and black level display using the Christie digital projector.

5. The screen must also be micro-perforated allowing the left, center, and right speakers to be heard by the theater guests.

6. The screen must also provide a tube to fabric interface to assure a secure and smooth attachment of the screen fabric to the roller. This is to minimize the potential for “laddering” which occurs when subsequent wraps of material, superimpose over an attachment point of fabric and tube.

7. The screen must possess a Tab-Guy system to assure equal tension across the fabric and thus maintain flatness across the viewing area.

The existing roller system box is 38 feet 4-1/2 inches long, while the roller in the box measures 37 feet 6-1/2 inches long and the new screen needs to fit into a similar new MBCAS box.

8. Edge Treatment: Black masking borders.

B. Electrically Operated Screens, General: UL-labeled units with case, screen, motor, controls, mounting accessories, and other components necessary for a complete installation and with remotely controlled operation of each screen.

C. Electrically Operated Screens without Ceiling Closure: Units fabricated for recessed, surface, or suspended installation with screen case fabricated from steel sheet not less than 0.0299 inch (0.75 mm), non-reflective matte black finish and with end caps and mounting brackets.

1. Motor in Roller: Instant-reversing motor with permanently lubricated ball bearings, automatic thermal-overload protection, preset limit switches, and positive-stop action to prevent coasting

2. The new motor must have a capacity of at least ½ horsepower, 120 volts, 60 hz, draw no more than 10 amps, and be compatible with the existing theater’s wiring.

3. The new braking system must meet or exceed the specifications of the existing Dayton Magnetic Disc braking system.

part 3 - EXECUTION

1.6 INSTALLATION

A. Install front-projection screens with screen cases in position and relationship to adjoining construction indicated. Securely anchor to supporting substrate in a manner that produces a smoothly operating screen with vertical edges plumb and viewing surface flat when screen is lowered.

1. Electrically Operated Units: Test to verify that other operating components are in optimum functioning condition.

2. The contractor shall provide the necessary firmware, software, and /or programming updates to ensure the screen operation is correctly controlled by the AMX control system.

1.7 TECHNICAL SUPPORT

A. The contractor shall train the key staff of the center on how to properly use, trouble shoot, and maintain the new equipment after installation and as coordinated with the COR.

1.8 COMPLETION DATE

A. All of the work shall be completed by May 27, 2015.
