Place Assets:

A Place page contains a few specific elements.

The Place Detail element contains a series of specific fields, organized across five tabs within the element.

Place Asset

Body This field has no character limit, although a best practice is to be fairly concise, maximum 400 words.

This is the spot for the primary interpretive text about the specific place. Your goal here is to introduce the reason this Place exists—e.g.,, why is it significant on a local or national scale?

Physical Description of Location Provide a description of what this Place looks like (5,000 character limit). This will be used by in-person visitors to this location who are blind, and this information will be in the NPS servicewide app.

For example, imagine the Place is Burnside's Bridge in Antietam. A concise description might be: 'A stone bridge, approximately 36 feet long by 12 feet wide, with stone walls on either side about 3 feet high.

The bridge spans a shallow creek about 24 feet wide. The heavily forested land rises sharply on both sides of the river.' Providing this description lets a visitor who is blind understand the general layout and appearance of the Place. (History buffs take note, the description here is just an example and might not be accurate).

This is inherently a little bit subjective, but do your best to help a person who is blind understand what the Place, and its surroundings, look like.

Standard Quick Facts This is unique to Places. The system desires:

o Location Street address with zip code if available AND lat/long coordinates.

o Significance Short description of the role in history this Place serves. This might also be an official statement of significance (e.g., if the Place is on a list such as the National Register).

o Designation Official status—possibly National Park, National Register of Historic Places, National Landmark, National Natural Landmark, State Park, HABS/HAER, etc.
