About this file

This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for a federal contract opportunity to supply and deliver concrete for the Grandview Point Overlook Rehabilitation project in Canyonlands National Park. The project requires approximately 40 cubic yards of colored concrete with specific requirements for air entrainment, compressive strength, cement type, slump, and aggregate size. The contract also includes optional add-ons such as ice, delay set, fly ash, fiber mesh, hot water, and calcium chloride that may be ordered by the National Park Service (NPS) in proportion to the concrete quantity. The period of performance is from July 15, 2024 to December 31, 2024, with deliveries anticipated in the August to October timeframe. The NPS will schedule delivery dates and times, and the contractor will be responsible for transportation and unloading the concrete. Payment will be based on the actual quantity of concrete delivered, delivery time, and any admixtures used.

B. Delivery days and hours. Concrete delivery shall be as scheduled by the Park, with no weekend or Federal Holiday deliveries being requested. All deliveries shall be coordinated with Eric McDougall (435) 719-2157. Deliveries anticipated in the August – October timeframe.

C. Services. NPS Phones are not available to the Contractor. Restrooms are available for Contractor use at the Visitor Center and at various locations within the Park including at the project site.

D. Hot or Cold Weather Concrete. Concrete may require additional admixtures to allow hot or cold weather placement. These additives are ice, hot water, calcium chloride, fly ash, microfibers and/or delay set up to 2 hours. Due to weather variability, the use of these additives will not be known until the day of ordering. The Park will determine if these additives are required on the day that the concrete is ordered.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

A. Submittals. Provide electronic cut sheets, preferably in PDF format, that document that the concrete mixture and associated admixture products meet the requirements of 2.1 Products and 1.1D Warranty. Provide certification of competency for manufacturer’s concrete mixture 28-day compressive strength. This information must be included with the quote, even if an approved product is being supplied.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 CONCRETE REQUIREMENTS

A. The Concrete shall be grey or the integral color concrete. The color shall be Davis 5084. Other brands of similar color may be used. Color shall be added to the mix design at 12 lbs. of color per cubic yard of concrete.

B. Air Entrainment: 6% ± 1%. ASTM C260 specification.

C. 28 Day Compressive Strength: ≥ 4,000 psi mix design. ASTM C873 specification.

D. Cement: Type I or II. ASTM C150 specification.

E. Water-Cement Ratio: 0.35 ≤ W/C ≤ 0.45.

F. Slump at Maximum W/C Ratio: 4 to 6 inches. ASTM C143 specification.

G. Maximum Aggregate Size: 1 inch. ASTM C33 specification.

H. Temperature: ≤ 90°F. ASTM C1094 specification.

I. Ice: Add ice at 15 lbs. per cubic yard if requested by the Park.

J. Delay Set: Add delay set if requested by the Park for delay up to 2 hours. ASTM C1017 specification.

K. Fly Ash: Option if requested by the Park for substituting 10-25% of required cement amount with fly ash by weight. ASTM A618 specification.

L. Hot Water: Substitute Hot Water in Mix Design for cold weather concrete.

M. Calcium Chloride: 0.5% to 2.0% if requested.

N. Fiber Mesh: Option if requested for micro fibers normally added at 1.5lbs/ft3.
