U. S. Department of the Interior National Park Service
Walnut Canyon National Monument Install Insulation under Housing Unit
PMIS 247295
Scope of Work
General:
National Park Service (NPS), Walnut Canyon National Monument: Install Insulation/Asbestos Abatement/Rodent Exclusion
Location:
Walnut Canyon National Monument, 11 Ranger Cabin Rd, Flagstaff, AZ 86004
Project Overview:
This project removes old insulation and installs new insulation in the crawl space beneath and above the 1600 square-foot housing unit, and performs asbestos abatement on the insulation surrounding the water pipe underneath the house. Insulation covering the water line under the house has tested positive for asbestos.
Contractors will mitigate this material and replace with non-asbestos containing insulation. This project also includes remediation of HVAC ducting that has failed and allows entry to rodents. All perforations under this house will be sealed to further prevent rodent intrusion. Treatment will also include sealing all exterior attic access holes, trapping rodents if needed, closing off access holes, and sealing window and door gaps. The replacement insulation will be a minimum of R-23 and composed of rock wool fibers, not fiberglass. Insulation will be wired in place to keep it from falling from between the joists. The existing crawl space varies in ease of access – between 12” and 36” of clear space between the joists and the ground. A site visit is encouraged to fully assess the scope of work.
Place of Performance/Hours of Operation:
The normal hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm. All activities affecting NPS operations and/or visitor and staff safety must be arranged with NPS COR. Instillation will take place during normal business hours; exceptions may be authorized in order to better meet the project goals and incur fewer closures.
Period of Performance:
Performance will commence no less than 30 days after the award and completion within 45 days after award.
