1.2. Project Description

This Scope of Work (SOW) is for a combined replacement of existing septic tanks, leachfields, and wastewater distribution plumbing and boxes at the Desert Research Learning Center (DRLC). Existing systems are failing and exceed their component design life. The project replaces existing equipment and structures with higher reliability equipment that will meet 2017 Pima County Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and 2018 National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) code requirements. Attached designs (Appendix A) stamped by a Professional Engineer meet these requirements and will be followed by the Contractor.

3 Summary of Requirements and Objectives

This includes pumping septic tank waste materials from both existing tanks and hauling sewerage to an Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ)-approved septic disposal facility, and excavation and hauling of demolished tank and box materials to an ADEQ-approved landfill. Existing leachfields may be abandoned in place if they do not interfere with the establishment of new leachfields; otherwise, contractor shall remove and haul leachfield pipe to an ADEQ-approved landfill and backfill.

B. North system: Provide and install 1 new traffic rated, ADEQ-approved (AAC R18-9- A314), dual-chamber, 2000-gallon gallon concrete septic tank, 2 inspection risers/lids, 1 filter tee, 1 distribution box, approximately 42 infiltration chambers (Infiltrator Quick 4 or equivalent, 4’L x 3’W), 6 chamber caps, approximately 145’ of 4” PVC SDR-35 pipe, 1 cleanout (4” PVC), and 3 inspection pipes (4” PVC). See Appendix A. for details and design specifications.

C. South system: Provide and install 1 new traffic rated, ADEQ-approved (AAC R18-9- A314), dual-chamber, 1250-gallon gallon concrete septic tank, 2 inspection risers/lids, 1 filter tee, 1 distribution box, approximately 34 infiltration chambers (Infiltrator Quick 4 or equivalent, 4’L x 3’W), 4 chamber caps, approximately 145’ of 4” PVC SDR-35 pipe, and 2 inspection pipes (4” PVC). See Appendix A. for details and design specifications.

E. Provide and install plumbing and fittings as needed to connect new tanks and D-boxes to existing outflow plumbing from Main and Annex Buildings. For North (Annex) septic system, piping will convey sewerage under the North parking lot to new tank location (see Appendix A). Surface-level 2-way cleanouts to be installed ahead (upstream) of each septic tank for every 100’ of distribution piping with 2% minimum slope.

F. Dispose of deleted pipe, excess soil, and any other waste materials in an ADEQ-approved landfill.

G. Bluestake and coordinate with utilities as needed to ensure excavation and backfilling do not impact other buried and overhead utilities.
