About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for NASA LARC Shelving Installation (Solicitation 80NSSC26928936Q), procured through the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA).

The document addresses site conditions and contractor responsibilities for the shelving installation project. Key site details include: the concrete floor is generally level but slab integrity cannot be guaranteed; anchors are preferred contingent upon concrete meeting structural soundness requirements and minimum 6-inch thickness; the two warehouses are interconnected with connecting roll doors; and NASA will provide an 8,000-pound capacity forklift and two operators for material offloading. The contractor is responsible for trash disposal, including wooden pallets, plastic, and debris, as the facility is remote with no dumpster available. NASA will handle material offloading before the installer schedule begins. Regarding equipment and anchoring, NASA does not provide cage or boom lifts for elevated racking assembly; contractors must procure their own support equipment. For racking bolting at both warehouses, contractors should use wedge floor anchors or standard hardware appropriate to the specific racking brand provided. The concrete floor is assumed to require minimal shimming for leveling purposes.

Q&A Document

80NSSC26928936Q – NASA LARC Shelving Installation (DLA)

Q: We cannot guarantee the level/grade of the concrete loor

I am assuming that we'll be dealing with a concrete loor that is generally level, and will not require a large amount of shims to level out our racks

A: Concrete loor that is generally level

Q: We cannot guarantee the slab integrity of the concrete

a. You're not requiring anchoring into the concrete, so this should not affect your installation

b. However, if you decide to require anchoring, we'll need to verify that your concrete is structurally sound and at least 6" thick

A: Anchors would be preferred. Under the assumption the concrete meets the criteria

Q: The distance between the two warehouses are unknown

A: The warehouses are interconnected and have connecting roll doors

Q: Will our team have access to a forklift on-site? Or, do you intend to have us rent one? For unloading material at the delivery point

A: There will be a forklift (8k capacity) on site and two NASA employees who can operate it to unload the delivery truck if needed.

Q: Will there be a dumpster on site for use by our installers? Or, do you intend to have us rent one? To throw out wooden pallets, plastic, debris, etc.

A: Because this is a remote facility, please operate under the assumption the disposal of trash would be handled by the installation group.

Q: Can your team on site handle off-loading of the material, before our installer schedule is open to perform the installation?

A: Yes

Q: Will You have a cage or boom lift for us to use to assemble the elevated racking portions?

A: We do not have support equipment on site for this task.

Q: Do we need to bolt the racking at the two warehouses? If so please Speciicy what kind of hardware we need to procure to anchor these into the surface of the warehouse loor

A: Wedge loor anchors or any other standard hardware. Did not specify the rack branding so it would depend on the racking that is provided.
