Question: Section 5.2.1 of the specification states: “Crane is to have a minimum reach of 11.9 meters and have a capacity at that reach of 2,000 kg.” Section 5.2.3 states: “Horizontal hydraulic outreach: 11.9 meters“ We cannot find any information on the Trident crane noted, but the referenced DMW MR330.45A3, manufactured by Guerra ( https://www.iguerra.com/series/ver/53/mr-330.45a.html ) reaches to 11.4 meters.

Is 11.4 meters maximum outreach adequate, or is 11.9 meters the actual required maximum reach?

Answer: Reach and capacity will need to be equivalent to or exceed MR330.45A3 with reach 11.4 Meters @ 17 degrees angle (capacity at that angle of 2125 KG) overall maximum reach is 11.9 Meters.

Question: Regarding the lift requirement of 2,000 kg at 11.9 meters outreach, the load chart for the referenced DMW MR330.45A3 indicates a capacity of 2,125 kg at 11.4 meters. If an extension were added, calculation yields a maximum capacity of 2,035 kg at 11.9 meters. However, the weight of any extension, and the winch and accessories (mounting bracket, wire rope, extension, boom tip sheave, hook and weight) MUST be deducted from the capacity. Typical deduction for a 2,000 kg line pull winch is approximately 130 kg at 11.9 meters, dropping the capacity to closer to 1,905 kg.

Is 1,905 kg at 11.9 meters adequate, or is 2,000 kg the required capacity at 11.9 meters reach?

Answer: Capacity is to meet or exceed MR330.45A3 capacity characteristics.

Question: Section 5.2.1 states: “Crane is to be calculated and designed according to DIN-15018 (H1-B3) or equivalent standards. Crane is to be ABS certified…” DIN is a general standard, the latest version of which dates from 1984, and which has been superseded. It not specifically marine oriented, whereas the “ABS Guide to the Certification of Lifting Appliances,” (latest version, July 2016) is specifically for marine applications. Crane manufacturers must follow class society, such as ABS, guidelines if a crane is to be certified. ABS Certification requires material certificates, ABS surveyor attendance during manufacture, ABS design approval, ABS surveyor attendance at factory load testing, and ABS surveyor attendance at on board load testing. ABS provides certificates for their actions during certification, DIN does not.

If ABS certification is required, may we simply ignore the DIN-15018 (H1-B3) requirement?

Answer: If DIN-15018 (H1-B3) or equivalent standards are not used please supply minimum standards of crane design which are used to meet ABS certification requirements as crane is to be ABS class certified and entered into the vessels cargo gear registry for lifting appliances.

Question: Section 5.2.5 notes: “Slewing shall be accomplished thru two (2) rack and pinion slewing cylinders such that restriction of rotation can be accomplished. Double rack and pinion slewing cylinders shall allow for 400° rotational range. Contractor to coordinate with vessel representative and or COR for actual limited rotational range settings.”

Will a slew bearing with orbital motor drive slewing system be allowed?

Answer: MARAD will accept an alternate system if, upon technical review, can determine the type of system is equivalent (or better). Please provide full justification demonstrating equivalence with your quote to be considered for award.

Question: The existing crane on board appears to have a cabin or shelter over the operator station or seat.

Is it desired that there be an open cabin or shelter for the operator on the new crane?

Answer: Per specification there only needs to be “A local control seat mounted to the unit” no cabin or shelter for the operator is required.
