Furnishing workers, materials, and equipment necessary to install and maintain temporary rockfall protection measures including an 18 inch thick blanket of unclassified borrow (or 1-inch thick steel plate), precast concrete barriers (or movable rockfall barrier), and timbers. Install temporary roadway rockfall protection measures as shown on the Plans prior to any on-slope work activities.
ii. Submit a temporary roadway rockfall protection work plan to the CO at least 7 days before starting slope scaling work. Do not initiate temporary roadway protection measures until the submitted plan has been approved by the CO.
Include the following in the work plan:
1) Provide a rockfall containment plan to address protection measures for the existing road, stone curb, and stone guard wall, and for additional debris containment methods needed to protect the environment.
2) Describe how additional temporary roadway rockfall protection will be placed, monitored, and removed. Include manufacture’s recommendations for component replacement, if applicable.
3) List the equipment that will be used to place and remove all temporary roadway rockfall protection.

1) Place a temporary precast concrete barrier (or movable rockfall barrier), with a minimum vertical height of 32 inches, 4 inches from the base of the existing guardwall as shown on the plans. Include a precast concrete barrier terminal section taper at the end of each precast concrete barrier section.
2) Fill the remaining gap between the precast concrete barrier and guardwall with unclassified borrow.
3) Place an 18-inch-thick blanket of unclassified borrow on the roadway between the curb and the precast concrete barrier (or 1-inch thick steel plate).
4) Place a protective timber cap on top of both the guardwall and curb as shown in the plans. Anchor or tether the timbers to the precast concrete barrier to prevent them from falling down the slope when hit by scaled rock. Recover any temporary roadway protection materials, timbers, or broken pieces of timbers that fall down the slope.
vi. Monitor temporary roadway rockfall protection measures and stop all scaling activities if the protection measures are not functioning properly until corrections can be made from damage to the protection measures or material removed behind the barriers.
vii. Remove accumulated rockfall debris from behind the temporary roadway rockfall protection when the debris has filled the catchment area, or when scaled rock begins to pass over the barrier.
viii. Remove all temporary rockfall protection following completion of all on-slope work activities. Dispose of all temporary roadway protection unclassified borrow outside the Park, unless otherwise approved by the CO. Clean work area back to pre-work condition.
ix. Remove any tool marks or drill holes resulting from scaling operations from the finished slopes, with resulting appearance of remaining rock to look natural.
