About this file
This special notice from the Department of Veterans Affairs announces the agency's intent to award a sole source contract to Sharps Compliance, Inc. for medication return envelopes and disposal. The agency cites an urgent need for Sharps' Takeaway Medication Recovery Envelopes system, which currently is the only solution that meets both DEA and VHA requirements for patient medication return and disposal. The proposed contract would be firm-fixed price. The special notice provides background on the need for an established medication return solution and states the government will research alternative options to enable future competitive procurements. The solicitation number is 36C77024Q0098 for supplies under product service code 6515 and NAICS code 339113. The contracting office contact is listed as Diana Olson at the agency's Leavenworth, Kansas location.

DESCRIPTION
SPECIAL NOTICE OF INTENT TO AWARD A SOLE SOURCE PROCUREMENT.
THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR QUOTE. THIS IS A NOTICE OF THE GOVERNMENT'S INTENT TO ISSUE A SOLE SOURCE AWARD.
This Notice is to announce that the Department of Veteran Affairs is proposing a firm fixed price contract with Sharps Compliance, Inc of Texas on a sole source basis of medication return envelopes and disposal. The proposed action is for supplies for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 13.501(a). The reason justifying this sole source procurement is that here is an urgent and compelling need for this medication return envelopes system and there is not time to determine if another vendor could satisfy the requirement.
Background:
The Sharps Inc. Takeaway Medication Recovery Envelopes are the only system currently in place that meets both the DEA and the VHA requirements for patient medication return and disposal. The government will continue to conduct market research to ascertain if there are changes in the marketplace that would enable future actions to be competed.
