About this file
This document contains responses to clarification questions for a solicitation to replace HVAC systems in Building 18 at a Veterans Affairs medical center. The project involves replacing all HVAC units, drain pans, steam lines, electrical disconnects, and refrigerant lines. For the unit currently with a drain pan, the existing pan must be replaced. All other units will require new drain pans. Only materials forward of the electrical and steam disconnects from the coils can be reused; all other materials must be replaced. Steam line sizes feeding the units range from 1 to 2 inches for supply and condensate return. Refrigerant line sizes are 1 inch for liquid lines and 1-1/4 to 2-5/8 inches for suction lines. These line sizes are provided for reference only as the replacement units will dictate new line sizes.

Text version
1. Currently only one unit has a drain pan. Are we to replace the existing drain pan and provide a drain pan for the other unit?
A: In short Yes: all units will need to have drain pans.
2. Can the government clarify what materials for this project the contractor can re-use?
A: From the electrical disconnect from units and the steam disconnect from coils forward all materials will need to be replaced.
3. Can the government provide the existing line sizes for steam, suction and liquid for each complete unit?
A: The steam feed to the Train unit in the “dirty side” is 2” for steam supply and condensate return , suction on both circuits is 1 ½”, Liquid side for both circuits is 1” and the steam feed in the McQuay unit “clean side” is 2” for supply and condensate return, the sizes of the suction 2 5/8” on both circuits and liquid are 1 ½” on both circuits. However, other than the steam lines, these will be moot as they will be replaced and dictated by the replacement units. Measurements should have been taken during project pre bid walk through for verification we strive for accuracy but provide these numbers as a reference information only.
