About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file related to dock renovation work for a VA (Veterans Affairs) facility at Building 330. The Q&A covers multiple aspects of dock infrastructure improvements, including replacement of dock seals, concrete repairs around dock curb angles, dock lift modifications, and equipment specifications. Key details include confirmation to: 1) replace dock seals, 2) repair concrete at all docks, 3) install a bridge plate to cover the gap between dock lift and concrete, 4) add a skirt around the dock lift, 5) implement a hand control with 2-way or 3-way options, 6) include a new safety chain, and 7) install a 20" standard dock leveler instead of an 18" non-standard version. Additionally, the VA specified an airbag 120v leveler for the building with red siding and approved completing the work in two phases (docks 1 and 2 first, then docks 3 and 4).

Questions and Answer

Dock seals are in rough condition. Do you want us to include replacement of dock seals with this quote?

Answer: Yes, we would like to include dock seals.

At site visit, it was determined concrete at all docks needs repairs around the curb angle. Confirm concrete at ALL docks needs replaced, not just 1, 3, 4.

Answer: Yes, all docks need concrete repaired.

For the dock lift, it was recommended by the dock equipment supplier to provide a bridge plate to cover the gap between the dock lift and the concrete dock. This would help preserve the concrete edge at the dock. Please advise.

Answer: Yes, we would like a dock plate.

Confirm if a skirt is required around the dock lift.

Answer: Yes, a skirt is required.

At site visit, it was discussed that the VA would like a hand control mounted on the dock lift with option of 2way or 3way. Please confirm if you want us to proceed in this direction - we will confirm with the manufacturer what exact options are.

Answer: Yes, please proceed in this direction.

Confirm that a new safety chain is to be included on dock lift.

Answer: Yes, please include a new safety chain.

The new floor is required at dock leveler. 18" not standard, so will be more expensive. 20" is standard, so it is recommended to remove the existing floor, pour a new floor to depth of 20" and install a 20" standard dock leveler.

Answer: Yes, proceed with the 20” route.

At lift at building with red siding - there is existing 120v. Per dock equipment provider, 120v hydraulic is slow, and they recommended installing an airbag 120v leveler. Please advise which is desired - hydraulic or airbag.

Answer: Airbag

Are we able to work on all docks at building 330 at the same time, or do we need to do these in phases?

Please advise.

Answer: No, it can be done in two phases, 1and 2, then 3 and 4.
