ASBESTOS ABATEMENT SPECIFICATIONS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY OF THE WORK

1.1.1 CONTRACT DOCUMENTS AND RELATED REQUIREMENTS

Drawings, general provisions of the contract, including general and supplementary conditions and other Division 01 specifications, shall apply to the work of this section. The contract documents show the work to be done under the contract and related requirements and conditions impacting the project. Related requirements and conditions include applicable codes and regulations, notices and permits, existing site conditions and restrictions on use of the site, requirements for partial owner occupancy during the work, coordination with other work and the phasing of the work. In the event the Asbestos Abatement Contractor discovers a conflict in the contract documents and/or requirements or codes, the conflict must be brought to the immediate attention of the Contracting Officer for resolution. Whenever there is a conflict or overlap in the requirements, the most stringent shall apply. Any actions taken by the Contractor without obtaining guidance from the Contracting Officer shall become the sole risk and responsibility of the Asbestos Abatement Contractor. All costs incurred due to such action are also the responsibility of the Asbestos Abatement Contractor.

1.1.2 EXTENT OF WORK

A. Below is a brief description and estimate of quantities of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) to be abated. These quantities (and conditions) are for informational purposes only and are based on the best information available at the time of survey completion and specification preparation. The Contractor shall satisfy himself as the actual quantities to be abated. Nothing in this section may be interpreted as limiting the extent of work otherwise required by this contract and related documents.

1. The general contractor (not the abatement contractor) shall hire an independent industrial hygienist to provide the duties of the Veteran’s Professional Industrial Hygienist (VPIH). The required duties of the VPIH are indicated in this specification. If the general contractor is also the abatement contractor, the VA will hire an independent industrial hygienist to provide the VPIH duties.

2. Base bid items are in included in the tables below.

3. Deduct alternates, shall include the following:

Deduct 1 – Building 2: Crawlspace abatement work (pipe insulation and dirt floor).

Deduct 2 – Building 2: Remainder of abatement work minus crawlspace work.

Deduct 3 – Building 6: Crawlspace abatement work (pipe insulation and dirt floor).

Deduct 4 – Building 6: Remainder of abatement work minus crawlspace work.
