36C24823Q0435 Grossing Station System

Q1. I noticed you had put this out as a total small business set-aside, would you please consider making this a SDVOSB set-aside?

A. A Sources Sought was issued on 4 January to 13 January. During this time, (1) SDVOSB responded.

Based on these results, there was No confidence 2 or more quotes will be received from capable SDVOSBs or VOSBs at a fair and reasonable price. It was in the best interest of the government to set this procurement aside to small business.

Q2. Will both units require a garbage disposal?

A. Yes, both units will require garbage disposal.

Q3. The unit for Surgical Path has both formalin dispensing and collection; however, the Morgue unit has only formalin collection – just confirming that the units differ.

A. Both units have formalin collection and automatic electronic (via pump and volume monitoring)

Q4. The unit for Surgical Path does not include a dissection board. Just confirming one is not required.

A. The Statement of work has been updated to include the dissection board for both units. See updated Statement of Work.

Q5. There appears to be an issue with the first grossing station. The first unit is specified with a filter (BF007) and BF400 (counter down-back draft). The second unit is described correctly as the filter works in conjunction with the recirculating box (MB1009). The first unit should also include the recirculating box if it is not connected to the building HVAC for ventilation. Can you please advise?

A. The surgical pathology unit is connected to the facility’s HVAC system, and it does not require filters. The BF400 also for surgical pathology is not connected to the facility’s HVAC and does require filters. This is smaller separate dissection area that will be utilized mostly frozen section specimens that are performed while the patient is still on the operation table and the results must be available within 20 minutes. Since these specimens are frozen fresh, they are do not emit formaldehyde vapor, however, in rare instances, i.e. heavy workload or an unusual specimen, may require two people to work with formalin-fixed tissue, the filters in BF400 will allow for that.

The unit designated for the Autopsy in the morgue is not connected to the facility’s HVAC system, it will always be used with formalin-fixed specimens, therefore in requires a recirculating fan and filters.
