Statement of Need

Remove and Replace Station Level Batteries

And Generator Starting Batteries

The Malcom Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida and the Lake City Florida VA Medical

Center, have an immediate need to remove existing batteries and provide new batteries to replace the station level switchgear batteries at the Gainesville, Florida VAMC and replace two sets of generator batteries at the Lake City Florida VAMC. The batteries at the Gainesville VAMC provide 120 Volt DC power to critical electrical infrastructure in the event of a loss of power from the utility provider. The

Lake City VAMC batteries start two generator sets. These batteries are critical to providing the safe and continuous operation of the electrical utilities of both hospitals.

Objective

It is the intent of this project to remove old batteries, dispose of old batteries, remove old battery racks, procure new batteries and racks, install new racks for the batteries, install new station level batteries at the Gainesville VAMC and new generator starting batteries at the Lake City VAMC. The existing type and manufacturer of the batteries are provided below by location. The intent of this work is to replace the existing NI-CAD batteries as well as installing new racks for the new batteries being provided.

Gainesville VAMC

SCOPE OF WORK

1) Vendor shall remove and properly dispose of existing batteries, racks, and provide documentation of proper disposal to the Electrical Supervisor of each medical center.

2) Vendor shall provide and install new battery racks compatible with the new batteries at each location noted above.

3) Vendor shall provide new batteries and install per manufacturers recommendations and NEC Codes at each location noted above.

4) Vendor shall provide at minimum a 1-year warranty for labor and materials (Batteries/Racks) installed under this contract.

5) Some of the above identified work may be mandated to be completed during off hours or the weekend to ensure the safe daily operation of the medical center are not affected.

6) A site visit is required on Jun 26, 2019 at the following locations and designated time below:

Note: Travel time between VA facilitates is approximately 45-60 minutes.

Qualifications/Certifications

• The contractor shall be qualified and have the required levels of professional and technical experience to perform the work required by this statement of work.

• The contractor and all of the individuals working on the project site must have taken the OSHA

Certified 10-hour construction safety course.

Safety Regulations

• All applicable safety regulations shall be observed during all work of this contract.

• The VA Safety Officer shall have full authority to see that the contractor obeys all safety rules and regulations relative to the fulfillment of this contract.

• Provide the necessary barricades/signage where required.

Scheduling and Hours of Work

• All work in areas involved shall be scheduled with the COR.

• Work shall be scheduled for proper execution to completion of this contract.

• Hours of work. The contractor may have to perform this work after hours and / or during the weekends if necessary at the discretion of the COR.
