Bldg. 500 Roof Replacement Q&A’s Project # 652-19-101

1. There are a number of satellites, micro wave towers and roof top equipment that may need to be moved or disturbed during the re-roofing process. Is this an item that will be handled by the owner or the contractor? Contractor is responsible for moving antennas, equipment, etc. Coordinate any moves with VA 3 weeks in advance.

2. The scope calls for all of the roofing and lightweight fill to be removed down to the flat concrete deck prior to installing the new materials. Is this correct? Yes

3. The project has 400 days for completion. Will there be an allowance for weather days or for cold weather days (not 40 degrees and rising) because of installation restrictions? There may be 2-4 months where that may be the case. VA will adjust completion date based on actual weather conditions.

4. Is scaffolding required to access the roof areas? Contractors choice. VA Safety staff can provide Contractor’s Superintendent with limited daily access to roofs via elevator machine rooms. Contractors personnel shall use stairs or service elevators to access elevator rooms. If service elevators are to be used for transporting materials, in order to minimize impact to VA operations they may not be used from 8am to 4:30pm without COR approval. If ballasted railings are installed, Safety will provide a key to the Superintendent who would then be responsible for providing access to his/her workers.

5. What is the required spacing for the handrail system 5’, 6’ or 10’? Between 4ft and 6ft.

6. What type of padding or slip sheet is required under the handrail bases? Contractor is to warranty roof. Therefore, contractor shall consult manufacturers and determine if a slip sheet is required and what type.

7. What are or where are the prevailing wages for this project? Wage Determination # VA190007 (attached)

8. Can more clarification or detailed information be provided for the replacement of the drains, i.e.

Do any pipes need to be cut? Do any new connections need to be made? Are the drains all the same size? Etc. No cutting of piping is anticipated. Replace drains/piping down to first bend (including elbow/fitting). See the attached PDF files for additional information that may be relevant:
