Text version

1. In B118, there appears to be some expansion and/or control joints across the corridor that are concealed and covered with the existing VCT. Is the new LVT to stop either side of these joints or to cover them continuously similar to the existing installation?

SEE SPEC SECTION-09 65 19 RESILIENT TILE FLOORING PARA 1.8.B APPLIABLE PUBLICATIONS INCLUDE

ASTM INTERNATIONAL F710-11 “PREPARING CONCRETE FLOORS TO RECEIVE RESILIENT FLOORING” TO

ADDRESS CONTROL JOINTS OR OTHER NON-MOVING JOINTS AND EXPANSION JOINTS, ISOLATION

JOINTS OR OTHER MOVING JOINTS. AS PER THIS REFERENCED PUBLICATION, MOVING JOINTS SHALL

NOT BE FILLED WITH PATCHING COMPOUND OR COVERED WITH RESILIENT FLOORING. SEE RESILIENT

FLOOR TILE MANUFACTURER’S RECOMMENDATION FOR ALL EXPANSION JOINT COVERING SYSTEMS.

2. In B36, drawing G-002 General Note 14 calls for removal of existing terrazzo cove base, and

Note 12 calls for new 4” rubber cove base. We see that the existing terrazzo cove base/edge band is flush with the existing VCT in the floor plane, and flush with the existing finish in the wall plane.

a. Must the terrazzo cove base/edge band be completely removed to the substrate, then filled with cementitious underlayment per Section 09 05 16, including up the wall flush with the wall finish?

Terrazzo COVE BASE to remain; FOR all locations in B36 that have EXISTING RESILIENT WALL base replace with terrazzo to match existing. This does not include connecting corridor/RAMP from 118 to

36, that is to remain NEW RESILIENT WALL BASE

b. In the floor plane can the terrazzo be merely ground down enough to accept the new LVT?

Terrazzo WALL BASE to remain; INSTALL NEW FLOORING FLUSH WITH EXISTING BASE AT FLOOR PLANE.

c. In the wall plane can the terrazzo be left as is and the new rubber cove base applied to it?

Terrazzo WALL BASE to remain, SEE ANSWER TO 2.a ABOVE.

3. Similar to question 2, we see that there are existing terrazzo feature bands across the corridors in some locations.

a. Must the terrazzo floor band be completely removed to the substrate, then filled with cementitious underlayment per Section 09 05 16?

NO, EXISTING TERRAZZO BANDS IN FLOORING PLANE TO REMAIN, NEW RESILIENT FLOORING THE BE

FLUSH WITH THESE EXISTING TO REMAIN FEATURES.

b. Can the terrazzo be merely ground down enough to accept the new LVT?

SEE ANSWER ABOVE, EXISTING TO REMAIN.

4. Will the abatement contractor get the entire floor space (all three areas) at one time? Or will we have to abate each building at a separate time? If separate, must the tunnel be separate also?

The buildings need to remain accessible, contract to provide abatement plan to COR for approval prior to any abatement work commencing. Anticipate the need to phase abatement work to maintain access to buildings. Plans must comply with ADA guidelines.

5. Will we get the entire corridor to abate in each building in one mobilization or will we get only parts of the halls in each building, if we are to get only sections of the corridors to abate, how will the sections be divided up to allow for the abatement of the floors ?

The buildings need to remain accessible, contract to provide abatement plan to COR for approval prior to any abatement work commencing. Anticipate the need to phase abatement work to maintain access to buildings. Plans must comply with ADA guidelines.

ATTENTION: The VA wants to note to contractors that there are several cleanouts in the hallway of 118, these will need to be removed and replaced with brass covers. New covers are to sit flush with new flooring.
